The view from my "office"

The MAD office now has the Iberia experience centre right on Gran Via. Entry is free.

There’s a Flight Simulator.

Mockups of current cabin seating.

A historical display / recreation of early flying.

Cooking demos (presumably of inflight meals!)…

To left and out of shot, people were ordering food and drinks. To the right is the premium lounge looking out over Gran Via. I realised afterwards that I could have got on in off the back of my lounghaul IB flight into MAD. Otherwise, looks like free access for IB status members - not sure if you need to reserve in advance.

Also a gift shop and service centre.

Thanks for sharing! At the Schengen IB lounge atm at Madrid but back in town next week

Because you can get points and enjoy spending time in airports @SYD ?
No, a CR!

The IB Lounge (Schengen) is quite solid (as is the non-Schengen) but in BCN, it was 2 hrs from wheels down to hotel! Add 1+ hrs actual flying and the ubiquitous pre departure arrival time and transport - it was a ~5+ hr journey.

The MAD-BCN HS train at 2.5 hrs is probably 3hrs total.

The BCN office still isn’t completed…

But the interior fit out has improved since my last visit!

My first visit was in 1982 and my last visit was in 2019.
I was amazed at how beautiful it was inside. The sun streaming through those beautiful colourful stained glass windows was spectacular!

Not to be missed

No locals bombarding you with water cannons to stay home (but leave your Euros)!
Given they were spraying people in cafes etc who were spending their money it’s cheek. I understand the cruise ship issue as many refuse to spend their money onshore.

My last visit was also 1982. Still waiting for the second one 🤞

Cronulla today after several days of rough weather has left only about a quarter of the beach - the rest dumped out at sea. However, it provided good conditions for a bit of helicopter rescue practice under the flight path for SYD.
