Since we returned from OS 3 weeks ago it is the magpies that have taken over as the Custodians of our place and the usual flock of butcher birds
have gone. However there is one lone butcher bird who appears every day. It is smaller so likely to be a grey butcher bird rather than the usual pied butcher bird. The grey butcher bird is said to be smaller and not as melodious as the pied butcher bird and this one certainly has a very different song. Also when i mimic it it will fly down and just look at me without replying. On a couple of occasions whilst gardening it has come and sat beside me obvious;y to catch insects I disturb.

The Currawaongs come and stand beside me when I am digging in the garden, expecting some freebies.

An unusual situation with the usual butcher birds gone. I now have one of the noisy miners come and sit by my side in the garden. Has never happened in the last 30 years we have been on the Coast.
