From a few days ago:
Returning back to civilisation after a couple of weeks trekking to Everest Base Camp, I was lucky enough to get the best seat in the 15 seat Dornier 228 flying out of Lukla airport.
Lukla airport is a designated STOL strip, often referred to as "the most dangerous in the world" (although from my very limited experience, the description is perhaps a little over-blown).
For the technically minded readers, wikipedia states: The runway is 527 m (1,729 ft) × 30 m (98 ft) with a 11.7% gradient. The airport's elevation is 9,334 ft (2,845 m).

Brings back fond memories of when we landed at Mt McKinley base camp-happy that someone filled the front!

Bit of a story-we were supposed to be just flying over the peak. There had been bad weather for about a week so they had too many people at base camp so our flight (just us on the way up) was changed to land at base camp & bring a couple of trekkers off the mountaain. Apparently they get a gang out to stomp /prod down a pad to act as the landing strip. I remember we landed & then had to rev up to the stopping spot. Take-off was a very hurried affair. These photos show the landing strip & the base camp. Lady in charge of base camp was to be up there for a couple of months. Some were cooking chicken for their dinner that night.
One thing I believe that makes McKinley a bit "special/different" is that all hikers must carry tins to collect all their human waster & take it off the mountain when they leave-no photos of the tins!

Great office, too - I love Perth Arena; it's got great sight lines back in the stands, good facilities, and good sound.

Burswood Dome was just awful.

Your second question is answered by your first one

Actually, I pre-ordered the duck a l'orange which was really tasty. Its been a while since I've travelled QF long haul in Y. Noticed no salad with the meal. No butter with the bread either. Need to ask for amenities (eye mask, socks, dental kit, ear plugs).

As for the bag tag...not all of us are cool enough to have one like yours JohnM.

No.

That was day two (19th Jan). The ship came back and parked off NE Tasmania and waited for Helimed 1 from Latrobe Valley to arrive. Helimed dropped their paramedic then had to go to Tasmania for fuel before picking up the patient and taking them to the Alfred hospital. Seems the ship was not happy with the time it all took but did it to anybody or transit any closer to help the rendezvous.

A beJewelled morning at the home office today (~6.00am):
{Edit: the "Jewel" is one of the few cruise liners to berth bow-in rather than stern-in - makes for a much more photogenic appearance, IMHO}
