The view from my "office"

Nice to see youre not detained yet but Ive got the GoFundMe ready :)

And it seems the Iranians know how to make a good pizza, no bloody pineapple! (hoping the yellow bits are corn or capsicum).

Definitely no pineapple - quite a decent pizza overall. The beer was lacking something . Iranians just getting the hang of the tourism business; lots of scope for entrepreneurs to set up coffee and/or ice cream carts etc. Its cheap too! So far I think I'm spending abt A$25-A$30 total on lunch and dinner per day (admittedly, the lack of booze helps keep the costs down).

With respect, that reflects a completely inaccurate account of the situation here and only reinforces inaccurate stereotypes.

Iran is a cultured and sophiticated place. The people are very friendly. No sullenness is evident. A very large proportion speak very good English and many signs are in both Farsi and English - notably road signs.

There is not the slightest hint of a repressive police presence. While I've seen plenty of traffic police (dedicated to traffic), I've hardly seen a conventional police officer - and they have not been in intimidating combat gear and carrying heavy weapons.

I was only saying to RooFlyer yesterday that if I were to visit Iran again, I would rent a car and do my own thing. He concurred. There are no restrictions on doing so.

Most people wear western clothing (remember, Iran is not Arabic). The young women, especially, wear their headscarf very loosely, often 2/3 of the way back on their head. OK, the head covering is required, but it is clearly more symbolic than repressively enforced.

Book a trip - you will be totally and pleasantly surprised.

That's the former Dawn Princess - how do you think the change has gone? A bit leery of her as I didn't like Dawn P much the one time I sailed on her. Suite by the look of your photos so can't be all bad!:)
Yes, looks like all common areas have been re-ferb, cabins still a bit on the ordinary side, but ours was a suite, and we were very happy with it.

Brisbane early morning bike ride. This is at the University at St Lucia. Gorgeous with all the jacarandas this time of year :)
Have been living in London for the last 6 years and really miss the jacarandas in November. We have a big tree in our backyard in Sydney (planted by one of the owners long time ago before we purchased). It never fails to bring spectacular blooms each November for about 2 weeks. Almost every neighbour's backyard has one - some even older and bigger than ours. Walking down the streets, we always enjoy seeing the beautiful purple blooms above all the house roofs and lovely streetscape this time of the year.

The jacarandas are causing a major problem in one street in Kirribilli as (mainly) Chinese tourists flock to the street for a photo (s)! We nearly ran a few over last weekend!! Tourists cause traffic headaches to take photos of jacaranda trees in Sydney
