The view from my "office"

That is so sad JohnM, personally I don’t think we are meant to be alone. :(.

I also add that finding people wanting or adventurous enough (read unafraid...) to go to the types of places I go to, when I want to go, in the order I wish to go to multiple destinations, the higher classes of travel I use, the lower classes of accommodation I am likely to use at many times, going bush... the list goes on... mostly presents an insurmountable barrier to always travelling with someone.

Scaredy cats, whingers, fussy eaters, disorganised, unpunctual people and those who say they're in but then pull out need not apply ! I wait for nobody!

If I still had a SWMBO, there would certainly be no prospect of doing the type of travel I do!

OK, that said - want to join me for a couple of weeks out bush in Sudan that I've lined up in November @Steady (after I squeeze in Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Russia from next week for 10 weeks in the meantime)? :):D

No thanks (I can’t travel with someone that doesn’t appreciate aged Pinot o_O )

Oh dear. A shame she couldn’t really indulge in the experience. And a bit of a downer for you too.
I did enjoy the time and she is fun to be with and a good friend. It’s just that the way she travels must be quite different from me. I really don’t know how she would’ve managed to navigate Tokyo Station on her own. Anyway, home now. :)

Popular day trip to Montenegro, Kotor and Budva. We liked Kotor much better than Dubrovnik and wish we could spend a couple of days there.

Agree, stunning place.

Thanks. I was pretty chuffed with it actually. Pity the Wallabies didn't come to the party last night. All round not a good evening for Australian sporting teams.

Nope, lost all 3 yesterday. Shame.

Croatian coast, well Adriatic is more correct, is stunning. Great weather too but so hot come July-Aug. We went kayaking in Kotor which was fantastic.

As far as travelling alone, I’m sending MrP off to a hike in the Grand Canyon next May as one of his bucket lists. I’d rather have a root canal. He’s also trekked solo in Nepal and India.

JohnM and I are as one, except for the accommodation bit :).

I have completely different experiences in travelling with friends/family or travelling alone. Travelling with those you know you tend to stick more to yourselves (and with a wonderful family, why not !); by yourself exposes you to more of the locals and/or other travellers and I find I get a hellavalot more seen/experienced. And people are still talking to me when I get home.

Distinct downside of travelling alone is no second opinions where you are uncertain about something. :(

Or sharing and reminiscing. However I do not want to share the troubles associated with trekking with MrP.

My home office. I'm actually just playing with my new toy. A Huawei P20 Pro (with Leica triple lens technology including a 40MP one). So far I like it … a lot. Looking forward to my new life as a stunning photographer (although I'll settle for an average one).

Max Liebermann Villa on the Wansee. Max was a wonderful painter, but being Jewish - well you know the rest. Hounded from office, home compulsorily acquired from his widow,. See the full story here:
