You’re not staying there?

No - that’s for the landed gentry and the plutocracy - aka @RooFlyer (who fits into both categories ;):D).

Strange as it may seem, those sorts of places are not my scene. I can sleep anywhere as long as I can open the window, and hot water coming out of a chrome tap is the same as hot water out of a gold tap to me. And I can segue from hard-core basic camping to hard-core b-s ‘6 star’, behaving appropriately (if you get my drift) as required.

I have been known to fly to MEL in J (on points or an UPG on points, of course), stay at the YHA up in Carlton and dine the full tasting menu monty at Vue de Monde in its heyday and at Attica as it was hitting its straps.

I am happy to try restaurants to see what the fuss is about; not so hotels as, to me, they invariably disappoint.

Of course, YMMV...;):).

But, but, but …. I'm just a poor uni student (who happens to have a great Travel Agent who got me a great Virtuoso deal to stay at the Belmond :p )

I've travelled a bit with JohnM, and while we share a weakness see the essential reasons for J and F class on longhaul flights, I try to get as good a hotel as practical in any given location, in part because I sleep poorly and need the good rest after rushing around everywhere (that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)). As it happens, the next tour we are doing together mostly has only basic accommodation (I think I saw the word 'yurt' in there somewhere ), so that bit won't come into it.

On the other hand, food and bev I don't do 'fancy' while I'm travelling (some exceptions). Definitely a budget traveller in that regard. I often self-cater after visiting a supermarket.

Could you see what you were eating ??
Once the eyes got used to the dimness it was fine. It’s a little (actually a bit larger than on first look) French place downstairs in Bligh St. We had whole chicken with bread sauce and the waiter suggested a doggy bag! We took him up on that. They only do lunches on Thursdays and Fridays, dinners most nights. Food was good for mid range Sydney I thought.

My office tonight. The phone doesn’t do justice to just how red the moon was as it rose.

To the left is whatever cruise ship was in BNE today.
