The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

Wish I could say it was from a stay at the Four Seasons, but no.

re: The view from my "office"

I woke a little early today and made a somewhat spur-of-the-moment decision to take a drive in the country.
Headed 'down south', as we say over here. Bit of rain about, got off onto some side roads and blew the dust out of the turbo and checked that the AWD was working as per spec ;).

Turned out to be a pleasant 750 km circuit over 11 hours, with a light lunch at a country bakery and dropping in on some farmer friends who live about half way as the crow flies between Margaret River and Busselton (I have, at times, 'house-sat' the farm when they've gone away. Incredibly tough, but it true selfless JohnM fashion, I have given in and risen to the challenge ;):).)

This is about the northernmost pocket of karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor) forest which is endemic to the far SW of WA. 'Karri Gully' - on the windy back road from Manjimup to Nannup. Driven it many times in work-type vehicles, but never quite so quickly or as much fun as today :).

You'd have been ready for a drink by the time you got back this afternoon/evening. Selfless as usual JohnM

Very nice JohnM, seeding over and done with now? Or are blokes still going?

I wish I could say my country drive today was leisurely... Left home at 0330 headed out past chinchilla, went around the top of the downs and now 2 hours out of bundaberg. Ugh.. Haha

Are you available to "farm-sit" for 6 weeks next Sept-Nov 2016? 15 min from Pokolbin. You could cover a lot of wineries during your stay.

I knew my 'fun day out' drive was a doddle compared with the distances you do wooley :).

Season is a bit messy over here. Heaps of early rain got people going, then it got very dry and things stopped in places, so it's still under way. Playing a bit of havoc with getting trials in as well.

I could very well be. Normally I go away on my annual DONEx 7 weeks 1 Sept-c. 20 Oct but next year I'm giving it a miss in favour of travel to S Africa, Madagascar, Kenya & Tanzania in July-early August that I have recently been booking.

Are you serious?

My distances usually aren't too bad, but it has definitely been a while since I knocked over a 1500km day including appointments.

Would have to talk to hubby, but in the past our friend (who passed away 2 years ago) used to come up from Sydney to escape. (he loved the NO Optus service here) so clients could not contact him.
Although the kids have come up to " check on things" it helps when someone is on premises, even if only on/off, little things like keeping the septic system churning over, and company for our dog & feeding the rabbits.
Will PM you the co-ordinates, so you can see how far you are from city lights.

25km each way for me, with a total of 3 sets of traffic lights and 2km of dirt road, so walking/riding is NOT an option - wish it was.

I am a similar distance to this but 6 sets and only 2-300m of gravel - plenty of stock crossings so it's hard to keep the ute clean
