A red bellied black snake curled up in a pot plant.The stairs I walk down are about 60cm from the head. But he is only a little fellow.Hope mum is nowhere near by.

A red bellied black snake in Tasmania….

That's what I thought but it is black and the belly looks red and it moves.

Only way to know for sure is to lick the belly

So looked through the Tasmanian sites and on this there are reports of red bellied tiger snakes in North east Tasmania.That makes me feel so much better.

Generally the belly is pale yellow, white or grey, the enlarged ventral scales often edged with black. The head is broad and blunt.
