The view from my "office"

Today's view is at Princetown (not far from the 12 Apostles) where we have set up camp on the pretty Gellibrand River which flows into the ocean at Princetown Beach.

One side of the river at the beach has a sheer cliffs wall to frame it.

Gellibrand driver flowing from left to right, through the reed filled wetlands, with the river mouth about one km further on from where the the pic was taken.

The view today was stunning, and these few pictures are only a glimpse of the beauty on offer along this stretch of coast.

Gog and Magog, Gibson Beach, Great Ocean Road. They are just prior to the 12 Apostles.

The 12 Apostles.

Loch Ard Gorge, where the only two survivors of the Loch Ard shipwreck came ashore.

The Loch Ard, after having been in a mist, struck Mutton Bird Island violently in the early morning and sank in only fifteen minutes.

The point of impact is the cliff at the far left. The ship sank quickly. Loch Ard Gorge is to the right through a narrow entrance.

Only two people survived. Only five bodies were recovered. One so mangled it was buried on the beach immediately. The other four were buried on the cliff above the gorge.

Eva Carmichael 18 was one of the two survivors. Apart from her elder brother who was already in Australia, she lost all of her five other siblings and both parents in the shipwreck.

Her mother and one sister were two of the bodies recovered.

Today we were at Wreck Bay.

Over six hundred vessels have been lost on the Shipwreck Coast of which only 240 have been found.

Two came to grief at Wreck Bay. The Marie Gabrielle and the Fiji and their anchors remain on the beach there still.

The anchors and capstan of the Marie Gabrielle, still in the location where the ship came to grief. They are only fully visible at low tide.

The anchor of the Fiji is just a bit further along the beach. It was moved to above the high tide line and mounted in concrete as a memorial to the twelve crew and one local rescuer who all drowned.

Todays office at the Narrabeen Lagoon trail, somewhat overcast but fairly cool thankfully. I used to run the track regularly, about 2-3 times a week, but that came to a screeching halt last year with radius restrictions and restrictions on exercise after my saga with vaccination.

In the past, I would usually listen to podcasts while running, so it was really pleasant to take things at a slower pace and notice the scenery around me. Never thought I'd be taking pictures of flowers, but I guess I have been inspired by many here. It's amazing what you notice when you're present and in the moment.
