The view from my "office"

Hmmmm, new Luang Prabang railway station, fairly sure it is chinese owned and operated, they paid for it anyway.
Next to no English, no entry to inside unless you have a ticket, not even to look, very officious, not really surprised though.
Granted, the railway it is an engineering master piece, but the attitude is the complete opposite to the laid back Lao view on life.

I've seen similar in West African countries (air / rail), but wait till you get 2-3 years past opening..... might look fancy, but it's falling apart!

It will be connected to Kunming, and I believe Bangkok eventually. Hate to think what it will cost the Lao people.

Edit: Proof reading needed………

I did notice when we passed a Scenic ship. There was one Viking ship on the cathedral side of the river. We were on the far side with another longship alongside. The Vidar left at about 10:45pm heading to Budapest and Bucharest. I think that is actually up river, as the river flows from south to north.
I’ll keep an eye out for the Vidar. This afternoon we will be in Bamberg.

I have fallen a bit behind. Now for a quick catch-up!

Saturday we sailed through the Rhine Gorge with a lot of castles.

We stopped at Rüdesheim and visited the Niederwald Denkmal, the statue of Germania looking out over the Rhine to commemorate the unification of Germany under the first Emperor Wilhelm I.

The weather was not the best.

A Rüdesheimer Kaffee warmed us on return to town, prepared at our table, sugar, a mini bottle of brandy, set alight, coffee added and topped off with a generous amount of whipped cream.

Buffalo Dairy, Luang Prabang. Laos Buffalo DairyLaos Buffalo Dairy

Like a lot of others, the last 2 years have been very tough, but things are looking up, more buffalo due soon, so more milk.

The ”lump” is the new molasses lick block to reduce methane, they are also building a plant to make them. Unbelievable perseverance and persistence, I would have given up a long time ago.

Youghurt, ricotta, feta, blue on the front plate and mozzarella on tomato, yum, yum.

Safety check in - Four Mile Beach - Port Douglas at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel our new favorite hotel.

We booked this through Luxury Escapes after four nights down at Palm Cove. It has exceeded our expectations (trip report to follow soon). The only downside, is after getting the smart tv set up for MrsK, is being banished to the balcony so she can watch Bold & The Beautiful without any interruptions from me.

Avani+ in L.P. We have stayed at the Sofitel before which is unreal. Bigger rooms furnished with Lao items, cloth, etc, bath outside, seperate bath and shower inside.

Nothing wrong with the Avani, but the room could be any hotel in the world.

It is in town, so we aren’t doing as much exercise as previous times, Sofitel was a good 25 minute walk from here. This time we also have a car for the week, that is our steed parked out front. :)
