The view from my "office"

How are the water levels?
There are no longer any problems. Plenty of rain fell in the right areas from very late September. We are on a sister ship to the one booked, as a few ships had met in the middle to swap passengers during September. The sky has been cloudy for days, but only some intermittent showers here and not while we were out on walking tours.

Now docked at Cologne until late evening, right next to a major bridge. This afternoon I will walk across it to the Cathedral on the other side.

Which river cruiseline? We are doing the Viking Christmas Rhine cruise in Dec 2023. Viking had a lot of boat swaps in the last couple of months but all ok now. Next Spring it will be too high water levels.

This trip is with Viking. This particular ship goes into winter storage after this cruise. Although only Day 3, the experience so far has been excellent. There are a lot of Aussies onboard, majority are from USA, several Canadians, but only one British couple from Manchester. The food has been excellent and service likewise excellent. Already some waiters know some names. Very good wines and a large assortment of styles. The guides Viking use receive excellent feedback from the various groups. I can definitely say I recommend Viking River cruises.

That's great to hear. Their ocean ships are wonderful but river is where it started. Their longboats et al are everywhere in Europe and we kept bumping into those blasted huge red umbrellas everywhere when on a land tour. They even have their own fleet of busses. We will be on Kara.

The flannel flowers are putting on a show between Port Macquarie & Lake Cathie NSW. Apparently the 2019 bushfires created ideal conditions with a lot of tea trees burnt & thus more light reaching ground level. Plenty of rain & the flowering is supposed to last for a couple of months
