In my 3 or so trips there I didn't realise you could go up that mountainside. Was it just a path up from the Chateau, or some special activity?

There are a few different hikes. They all start just up the path from the Chateau. That was taken at the top of little beehive. They have a tea house about 3km up then can climb further up from there.

Would 100% recommend the walks. They’re moderately challenging mostly since there’s a bit of uneven ground.

Apparently it gets interesting if you enter Transnistria from Ukraine and then from Transnistria into, er, the rest of Moldova. The Trans mob don't stamp you in as Moldova, so when you hit the border with the 'rest of Moldova', the locals say - 'hang on, what are you doing in the middle of our country with no entry stamp?

Getting the marshrutka to and from Transnistria (or PMR - Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic) was a piece of cake, we waited 2 minutes going out and on the walk back to the station at the other end we saw one coming so flagged it down and got on. I wouldn't hesitate going at all @RooFlyer despite the 'do not travel' warnings from both the AU & UK governments.

Back in Chişinău and today was independence day, so lots of celebrations going on.

A few days in Lisbon. We picked up our daughter and two grandchildren from Lisbon airport on Thursday evening. They are joining us for two weeks.

We were a bit early on Thursday afternoon to meet our AirB&B host and found this kiosk in a little park just around the corner. We have been back here every morning for coffee and every afternoon after sightseeing for beer or wine.

The São Justa Elevator has become such a tourist attraction that the queue waiting to go up is very long. View attachment 322030

We rode a funicular up to the higher area and went down on the elevator instead. View attachment 322033

The observation deck on top of the elevator was closed for maintenance, but the views were still amazing.

@MARTINE, the kiosk is called Quiosque das Amoreiras, in the park Jardim das Amoreiras, in the Amoreiras neighborhood. It is not too far from the Marquês de Pombal monument and only a few minutes walk from the Rato terminus of the yellow metro line.


There is also a children’s playground, which may or may not be of interest to you.


The park is next to an aquaduct which terminates at a large cistern building. They are no longer used and there is a museum of the water supply. The cistern is now the venue for immersive art, with regular projection shows inside. All worth a visit.
