Chiang Rai, I like it! Great hotel, easy to wander, no touts stepping out in front of you, very good hill tribe museum and a good attached not for profit restaurant serving yummy food.
Live music and they were good.... Happily come back here again.

The results of the floods 6 weeks ago, not so good, however except for the tide marks, given the cleanup, you would be surprised as to what happened.

I was in Yunnan province in China in the mid eighties, saw a few hill tribe people in some small villages, relatively quite close. I'll have to dig them out and see if I can recognise some of the tribes.
