The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Hi all.

I recently matched my Qantas Gold to Virgin “Discover” Gold. I earned enough status credits during those 3 months or so that as of early September I’m now regular Gold.

Because I got in via a status match I got most of the benefits during the discover gold phase, with the notable exception of bag tags.

Does anyone know if (and how!) I can request a gold bag tag now I’m not in the trial phase anymore?

Can you exit and re-enter the lounge multiple times in the same day?

Say you invite as a guest to the lounge someone who has a Virgin flight several hours before yours, can you enter and exit the lounge together, see them off, then return alone to the lounge later before your flight?

Never had a problem. I sometimes tell those working at the entry on the way out that I'd be back.

hmm so needed 2 sectors to qualify for platinum.. failed to realise it was by 30/10/24, and not 31/10/24...
just booked a day trip SYD<->MEL for 31/10/24 with customers meetings etc..

gaah rookie mistake

eeek.. what are the chances the velocity gods will help me out and still pass me? ;)

Close to zero but as always there's no point in asking nicely (Velocity customer service, that is ... not the Velocity gods). I would think that a more successful strategy would be to try to change the date of your flights and hopefully get any change fees waived.

Of course, if you booked a Flex or Business fare you'll be able to change the dates with no penalty.

If you booked a Choice fare, you could call, explain the situation, and ask them to waive the change fees. It might just work.

And if none of that works, you could simply see your flights on Oct 31 as the first steps towards reaching Platinum next year!

With regards to a reward business ticket (paid with points + cash);

Cancellations must be requested at least 24 hours prior to first scheduled departure and refunds are subject to a 7,500 Points or $60 charge per guest per booking.

Question is - what determines whether the cost will be deducted in points or dollars? Can I make that choice somehow?

If you cancel online they will deduct the points. If you cancel by phone, you will be able to choose.

Hi all, this is probably an easy answer but I was looking for a flight for my Mum from FCO to MEL. On Kayak I found flights through Virgin Australia that are the exact flight I'm looking for codeshare with Singapore about 800 bucks cheaper than booking SG directly. I'm just looking to book normally (not through points) but the website directs to an error page, and talking to CS they cannot book anything that doesn't leave AU.

Is this just a Kayak error and there's actually no way to book these (flights don't actually exist unless booked in a return leg), Or is there a work around to be able to book these?? They are available if I go to use points, however I do not have enough to go down that path to book for her.

This is correct, VA codeshare flights can only be booked on oneway or return tickets that depart Australia. If you're seeing a oneway FCO to MEL on a VA codeshare then it's not able to be ticketed and probably an error with Kayak.

Yeah thought so. Cheers!

So I couldn't move my meetings or my schedule so I went today 31st.

My date for 2 additional sectors had moved to "by 30th Nov" this morning so all done and now home from my day trip and now I'm platinum till 30/10/25 :D

That's a win mate!

Is it just me or does Virgin not have an easy way to link/book flights under the Virgin Business Flyer scheme unless using that site directly?

For context with Qantas' equivalent, once a traveller is loaded into the companies profile every time they book themselves they can indicate if they are travelling for the company from their own FF profile and use the associated discount while also crediting the business for the flight.

Am I correct in assuming there is no such ease when using Virgin?

If you want the associated discount, it must be done via the Business Flyer site.

You can always set up profiles for all staff to log in and book directly via that.

Edit: as long as you put the ABN in on the regular site, this will be counted towards your spend on the Bus Flyer portal after the flight has been taken (just no associated discount).

If I've booked a partner reward with 2 seats on the same itinerary, can I cancel one of those seats for the $60/7,500 fee and keep the other?

Or will they make me cancel both given on the same PNR? Very unlikely for any seats to go back into itinerary given the flight is right before Christmas.
