Thank you for your responses. I really don't fly a lot on flights I can gain status credits so looking for any advantage I can get. Am looking to gain about 250 points.

I could have the solution if I earn status credits on flights which I have booked using Velocity Points, however haven't been able to confirm if this happens or not.

No luck, I was thinking of doing the same thing similar to the QF YASA & JASA but take a look at Velocity terms below..

6.17 Unless otherwise specified, Points and Status Credits are not earned for the following:
6.17.1 for tickets which are unused (in whole or part) or refunded (in whole or part). If you do not travel on all sectors of a ticket, you will not earn Points or Status Credits in respect of the unused sectors;
6.17.2 for others flying with you (even if you have paid for their ticket);
6.17.3 travel on charter flights;
6.17.4 flights purchased as part of a packaged holiday;
6.17.5 free tickets (including tickets issued as Air Rewards including Points Plus Pay bookings);
6.17.6 travel industry rebated tickets;
6.17.7 competition prize tickets;
6.17.8 tickets acquired at an auction;
6.17.9 travel by Virgin Australia team members on duty or on staff concessional travel;
6.17.10 travel under certain Government or corporate travel arrangements; or
6.17.11 on tickets which are subject to any specific provisions excluding the accumulation of Points and/or Status Credits which may include, for example and without limitation, discounted tickets.

Extract from Virgin Australia Media Release - 18th January 2012

To celebrate the launch of Business Class, Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program is offering its members the opportunity to earn double Velocity Points and Status Credits on all Business Class domestic flights taken with Virgin Australia between 26 January and 29 February 2012.

For those looking at taking advantage of the Double SC on Biz from 26th Jan - 29th Feb. I quickly pulled together a table on $ per SC for EX SYDNEY based on Biz Double SC Promo.

A trip to Mackay sounds like the go to check out the new Lounge.

Thanks so much for that graph!!!

However, couldn't you fly SYD-BNE-MKY for 80SC which then turn into 160SC ?

Yes you are right SYD-BNE-MKY (2 sector bookings) would earn 160SC under the Double Promo , although the cost per SC would be $6.61/SC as opposed to SYD-MKY of $4.24/ SC

Thanks :) but SYD-BNE-MKY is still $509. That's two flight numbers, so I assume that still counts as 2 flights, even on the same ticket/booking ?

Okay so now I need to make Platinum.. I am thinking:

MEL-SYD late Friday night in discount Y $115 & 10 SC

Hotel SYD with Hotelclub Amex 5 x points

SYD-BNE-MKY in J for $509 & 160 SC

MKY-BNE-SYD in J for $509 & 160 SC

SYD-MEL in discount Y $115 & 10 SC

Spend $1248 for 340 SC so $3.48 per SC and 6 lounge visits :p

Also double points, so 15270 Velocity Points for the J flights, assuming 10 points per $1 and 50% Silver bonus

Does this sound about right, and I haven't included the hotel cost for SYD, would be nice to avoid it which I can do by arriving at 12:40 and leaving at 13:10 but gives me no lounge time there..

Thoughts ?

No, No, No.

If SYD-BNE-MKY is booked as a one-way option, you only get SYD-MKY SC. However, if you book two tickets SYD-BNE and BNE-MKY you will get the SC total of both flights.

No, as per the following Terms & Conditions , SYD>MKY via BNE on the same ticket is classed as a single domestic fare , therefore SC for SYD>MKY will apply

Terms and Conditions
* When you purchase a single domestic or international short haul fare with Virgin Australia and there is a via point which does not involve a stopover, the Status Credits are awarded on the mileage from origin to destination, e.g. ABX-BNE via SYD will receive the Status Credits for the distance and fare type flown based on ABX-BNE.

Indeed :( Just skim read the last few pages of this thread and another which discussed the changes to SC earning.. :oops:

I am probably still going to do the trip

Spend $1248 for 260 SC so $4.80 per SC and 4 lounge visits as I have to get to SYD....

MEL-SYD-MKY-SYD-MEL
---10--120--120--10

Back to the points then, so 10 points per $1 and then 50% bonus for Silver ? I'll click across to Gold in MKY actually.....

I have a similar table however I only have them for Brisbane and Melbourne (direct flights only) with a few ex-Cairns and Gold Coast.

NOTE: This table only applies to Double Points Earning for Business Class. Cost of fares were calculated in December 2011 and may have changed, I just doubled the points for the calculation.

Okay after spending hours researching options and with limited time to spend flying around enjoying both flying and lounges, I am going to do the following

MEL-OOL-MEL
MEL-OOL-MEL

This will get me to Gold and I'll hit Platinum by the end of February with my other flying

Currently showing as 737-800's so will get the new J experience

Combined with 10 points per $1 (Double SC/Points promo) and perhaps the Silver/Gold bonus on top of that its pretty good, so a total of 25450 points & 480SC :mrgreen:

Can do this on any weeknight, after work. :cool:

Leave on the 1840 MEL-OOL
Return on the 2020 OOL-MEL (same plane operates the return)

Have to book on separate tickets as the min connection time is not met but as above it shouldn't be an issue

Hello Platinum :mrgreen::mrgreen:

A bought platinum as against gifted lol

I am doing a BNE - CNS - BNE in J dreded 737 700( if they are rouge aircraft you are compensated will advise) So double Status and Double points 19520 points and 240SC($4.06 per SC),then have a OOL - MEL - OOL a week later for 20200 points and 240SC ($4.21 per SC), gives my partner Platinum Membership, not too bad considering I was a Platinum the hard way 2000SC from domestic travel only since Aug 11.

Would be interested to hear more about this :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: I have an idea...........

Did the trip last year around the same time in PE on an E190 and as I was the only person in PE full flight and they sat someone next to me at minus 31 lounge angel was watching I was refunded the entire airfare.

Interesting!

I have just locked in a MEL-OOL-MEL run for this week :) Not a bad way to spend an evening, leave Melbourne Airport at 6:40pm and be back home in bed by 12:30pm, 240SC richer and 12725 Velocity Points richer...

Need one more next week, and a Happy Hour sale fare for another 10SC and I'll be well past Gold and will reach Platinum by the end of February!

Then I have a chunk of flights for 12 weeks straight which will likely earn me another 960 SC...

Wish Velocity had a "lifetime silver/gold/platinum" level............

Hi,

So I'm about to get Silver status, was just wondering what's the fastest / cheapest way to get Gold (250sc more). I'm from SYD, so was thinking SYD-BNE-CNS-BNE-SYD. yes / no? Any help is appreciated :)
