Hi,

So I'm about to get Silver status, was just wondering what's the fastest / cheapest way to get Gold (250sc more). I'm from SYD, so was thinking SYD-BNE-CNS-BNE-SYD. yes / no? Any help is appreciated :)

You could do as was suggested earlier in this forum SYD MKY SYD via BNE in J class as you get the use of the lounge in both directions. This is normally 60SC each way but travel before feb 29 and you would end with 240SC for the return trip. Total cost is $1018 works at $4.24 per status credit. Then look for a cheap SYD to MEL or OOL or BNE. one way would give you 10 SCs.

Edit: I see the bonus going :D!

I am doing a BNE - CNS - BNE in J dreded 737 700( if they are rouge aircraft you are compensated will advise)

Just had a call from Virgin Australia advising that I have a reconfigured 737 700 tomorrow, great service and no rouge aircraft.

Is there a bonus going at the moment? I thought you had to book in Nov to take part in the double SC offer...or is there a new one?

There is a bonus for J class only for travel until 29 Feb it is double points and double SC's

Did they call just to tell you this ?

I stopped thinking of doing the SYD-BNE-MKY-BNE-SYD run for a few reasons, but the main one was the E190's and the 737-700's on the route, plus it's a full day of travel PLUS a MEL-SYD-MEL flight.... However, you get the BNE and MKY lounge.... If my spare days weren't so busy I'd probably do it....

As above, MEL-OOL-MEL-OOL-MEL can be done in two evenings, after work on 737-800's.

Same plane operates the OOL-MEL so if the arriving plane is late you don't miss the return.

Only issue is you need to do on-line check-in for the OOL-MEL so there are no refunds etc on the return..

Most MEL-OOL-MEL flights are 737-800's and I am actually "shocked" at the number of 737-700's flying around with no business class......

Did they call just to tell you this ?

They sure did and currently I am the only passenger in J class on the flight.

If you are coming to OOL dont do it this week my kids are at home due to scholl closuers and localised flooding and I live centrally on the GC.

Opps should be school.

They may rung because I am Platinum and nearing 2000SC since Aug last year

Just further to those looking to jump on the SYD-MKY-SYD run for the Biz Double SC Offer until 29th Jan, there are few days in February where VA are replacing the regular E190 service with a 737-700 or 737-800. This is what the current schedule is for these services.

SYD-MKY-SYD (737-800)

Sat 28th Jan
Tues 31st Jan
Sat 11th Feb

SYD-MKY-SYD (737-700)

Mon 30th Jan
Sat 4th Feb
Sun 12th Feb
Sat 25th Feb

If your looking for a 737-800 on all sectors , this following routing is the best i have found

Tuesday 31st Jan

SYD-BNE - DJ909 - 0700-0730
BNE-MKY - DJ605 - 0855-1025
MKY-SYD - DJ1472 - 1350-1705

Other alternatives with this routing which include a 1 x 737-700 sector

Saturday 28th Jan & 11th Feb

SYD-BNE - DJ909 - 0700-0730 (737-800)
BNE-MKY - DJ605 - 0855-1025 (737-700)
MKY-SYD - DJ1472 - 1350-1705 (737-800)

The above routings will allow you to experience the following as well as obtaining 240 SC (120 OW) and a minimum 10180 points (5090 OW) + applicable status bonus points

* Sydney Premium Entry
* Sydney Lounge
* Priority Boarding
* Brisbane Lounge
* Mackay Lounge
* New Business Offer

I am looking to do either Sat 28th Jan or Tues 31st Jan , if anyone cares to join me.

Yeh just a fly in-out visit for SC's/points!

The weather is shocking up there, or I would spend the day at the beach!

Okay after spending hours researching options and with limited time to spend flying around enjoying both flying and lounges, I am going to do the following

MEL-OOL-MEL
MEL-OOL-MEL

This will get me to Gold and I'll hit Platinum by the end of February with my other flying

Currently showing as 737-800's so will get the new J experience

Combined with 10 points per $1 (Double SC/Points promo) and perhaps the Silver/Gold bonus on top of that its pretty good, so a total of 25450 points & 480SC :mrgreen:

Can do this on any weeknight, after work. :cool:

Leave on the 1840 MEL-OOL
Return on the 2020 OOL-MEL (same plane operates the return)

Have to book on separate tickets as the min connection time is not met but as above it shouldn't be an issue

Hello Platinum :mrgreen::mrgreen:

What about this for an idea to get you there;

To take advantage of this promo, what about Sydney to Denpasar in Business for a nice little points earner along with 320 status credits? you can get direct from Syd to Denpasar for a total of $1,349 on some days, with one way J around the mid $600 each way, in late Jan and early Feb and get 80SC each way, then when it's doubled with the double SC promo you get the 320SC. Whilst the total flight flight time is around 3 times longer than the SYD-MKY SC run and would also require a longer stopover (overnight) the total points earn for Syd to Depensar is were the bonus lies! 2873 miles each way (5,746 total miles x 2 velocity points per mile for J short haul business = 11,492 point miles x double points = 22,984 points) work out the affect on points with your status points bonus on base rate as well. Think I calculated this all right. Anyone else know of a similar high earning SC and points run for lesser or similar dollars?

Great pick up by danoleary55

The SYD-DPS direct is a great little earner with J costing $698 & 160 SC OW @ $4.36 per SC

How often does Virgin Australia have these double status credit promotions? Anyone know when the next one will be?

There has been a double SC promo of one type or another since approx Mid-late last year.

Sometimes for all, sometimes for just J class tickets, and currently for some targeted members (currently pretty scattergun).

Its likely there may be another one soon. As demonstrated by past history. But it may be a select campaign, on certain routes, certain members, certain classes or none at all.

So it looks like I might need a status run to keep Gold this year... or maybe qualify for platinum...

Currently at 820SC for my year, but need 180SC for plat before 25th Sept... 80SC to requal for Gold by 4th Dec...

I don't have any double SC offers (yet...lol) and it looks like the few work trips I was planning on are going to be pushed back due to others in the office taking leave...

So, help me mighty AFF...

Trying to do it as cheap as possible (purely for the fact that if the work stuff happens I won't have needed to spend the cash :)), within a weekend (max one night away), starting in BNE...

Thoughts???

Hey guys,

Trying to maximize a trip to SIN for SCs however the catch is I maybe strapped for cash... I come back from galavanting in the states with 430sc needing 70 to qual for gold and thought I would do a run over the Melbourne cup weekend leaving Friday, coming back tuesday.

If any one has some ideas please pm me :)

Cheers,
