What products do they have in the showers? Is it Aesop the same as CX F ? (fingers crossed)
Love the rain shower :)

You know being a bloke, I just took the shower got dressed and out, the product didn't mean much to me. But, it wasn't Aesops.

Furthermore to the drinks, they have REAL KIRIN..imported from Japan..anywhere that has real Kirin gets my nod..

Drats, I'll have to BYO personal products like I usually do ;)
I'm going to get there extra early next month to get first dibs on a Cabana.
The Haven is totally aesthetically uninspiring but perhaps I'll forgive them for that as the open areas look amazing
Thankyou for all the great pics SeatBackForward :)
Enjoy your flight !

No worries, just sheer coincidence I'm here on the second day they are open!

We have A LA Carte!

Note how it says "Peninsula" at the bottom, I wonder if its the same famous Kowloon hotel?

To be fair to QF HKG is not their home port so you wouldnt expect their lounge to rival CX - in the same way that CX's lounge in SYD doesnt rival the QF lounge - oh wait CX havent even bothered to build a lounge in SYD...

Let's be fair CX have built what looks to be a fantastic lounge in their home port that rivals any other F lounge (not F terminal) in the world - as we expected.

Well I suppose my opinion was more to share with those who think that QF's HKG lounge should be brilliant, really rivalling CX's effort. I suppose we were all being waxed lyrical by the claims of Marc Newson sprinkling his inspiration there. For me, all I expect from that is perhaps the same kinds of couches and the hexagonal pattern carpet.

Sans possibly the traffic noise below (including possibly screaming kids, as someone alluded to), I expect it to be a nice place to relax, nothing more (that goes the same for the food and showers)! If I had to crash somewhere and didn't feel like getting up at all, I'd be happy to go there. That's all I'd want.

No sign of a spa?

Just to show my cultural ignorance do the Chinese not do the European style spa? I know of chinese massage but am ignorant of what the chinese expect of a spa and whether that is something one would expect in a lounge.

Not sure about from a Chinese / Hong Kong cultural point of view, but I wouldn't quite pick that a spa is a signature cultural "requirement". (Those of you who have seen Rush Hour 2, all I have to say is, "no" ;)).

Could you sneak in some photos of the buffet? :)

I'm expecting much the same kind of buffet from the last times I've been in The Haven before the refurbishment. Right down to the distinctive cold soba served on a bed of ice.

Every good lounge deserves a coughtail.

...

Thats a signature dish called "Xpreso" - Absolut, Espresso and Baileys...YUM a grown-ups coffee!

Essentially your normal espresso coughtail.

Personally, I know it's non-alcoholic, but I really like CX's signature Cathay Delight.

Love the rain shower :)

Recalling from the old lounge days, I believe the cabanas last time had the same rain showers. The product I believe was Dermalogica - not sure if it's the same. That said, they put some product in the showers that was in refillable dispensers which are not labelled, so no idea what that product is.

The lounge looks good, but I gotta say that black tile is sort of doing my head in ;) I can't tell well from the photos where the floor, wall and reflections are :o I can just see myself running face first into the walls.

Shanghainese noodles and Chardonnay... a perfect combination?

Perhaps if there was a view. I think that's why this part of the new wing lacks the wow factor. Not like dining at SYD T1 F Lounge...

The Peninsula Hotel has been contributing to The Haven's catering range and ideas for yonks now.

Not sure about the wine and noodle match; you'd have to tell me that. ;) I don't normally drink Chardonnays, though, except for Champagne.

Matching Chinese food, especially soup-based dishes, is a challenge IMO. In fact, I personally think it's still a black art, and I still prefer to enjoy traditionally cooked Chinese food with tea.

The old Haven had no view - same enclave away from the lounging area. I'm not sure about the decor necessarily being a uni cafeteria style - what university did you go to? This is not like the Hilton Sydney Exec Lounge which was finished in undressed concrete and bright-and-brash colour plastic schemes. There's a level of sophistication here that I'm thinking looks alright. Maybe some polished timber chairs might've been better.

Just witnessed a major DYKWIA moment in here. Some Aussie and I say that by recognizing the accent having a go at the floor manager because he was told the kitchen would take ten mins to prepare some Dim Sum.....

To paraphrase "Look its good that you've refurbished this place but I suggest at your next team meeting that you think about the service. Its not that busy here, we've been here plenty of times when its been much busier, but this just isn't good enough"...

To which I say - " you sir, are a wanker"

Wow.. Was that response: under your breath or was it audible to the DYKWIA ?

That said, if it's 10 minutes to prepare dim sum, I'm hoping that it is not necessarily packet made (i.e. prepared daily) and cooked on the spot, or made a la minute. It does not take 10 minutes to reheat up packet dim sum, which will not be great quality.

It also depends on the dim sum, too. If it's just the staples like siu mai and har gow, then those should not take too long to prepare.

I assume your paraphrasing was significantly much more diplomatic, because the critique as you've stated isn't entirely off the silly end of the scale.

The food in the Haven has always been from The Peninsula staff, yes the famous Kowloon hotel.

It was to myself, but on the way out I had a quiet word with the same floor manager. I said not to worry about that behaviour, if someone can't handle a ten min wait on food, perhaps flying shouldn't be their own thing.

Thanks for the photos and review!

I can't quite remember this one and always get tripped up on CX access rules - assuming no relevant status or F departure, is a same day CX First arrival adequate for entry to a CX F lounge, or do you need to be departing on a CX flight? Or any OW flight?

So I'm currently at the Qantas F lounge at HKIA. I'm flying 3K so obviously no access to CX F Wing.
Asked the QF lounge angels when the refurb will be done - they were saying they don't know and probably sometime this year.

The QF F lounge is pretty full at the moment. I am wondering why there are so many pax? If you could get into the QF F lounge into HKIA, you could probably get into the CX F Wing.

Perhaps they are all flying 3K as well.. Or just enjoy the cosy atmosphere..

A friend (HKG based) passed through the Wing over the weekend and still rates QF SYD better than the new Wing

His words "CX just things so well and amazing I just thought it would be better even though it is great"
