Theres a new spirit - Qantas

Personally
The new SCL flights are great news - status bonus miles on my 4 trips there a year.

Flagship F lounges in HKG, SIN and LAX? Not bad.

Glad HKG and BKK didn't get the chop, even if the onward LHR services are taken over by BA.

ASAs with partner airlines? Intriguing. Dread to see the cost though.

A320s - nice, I think that will be great for replacing 738s. Not so sure how they'll work for the 'premium' Asian airline though.

1000 redundancies - well, that was rumoured / reported ages ago. You'd hope they manage the process carefully.

New F lounges too...

and no Qantas Asia as such, rather a new airline in name etc... plus the Low cost Japanese base too.

With obvious self interest I was looking for the word Platinum, cannot find it mentioned!

Absolutely nothing there to make me think that this is anything more than the old Qantas putting on a fancy dress to try and confuse me.

Not sure exactly which bit of their release was supposed to entice peeps back to the fold.

No mention of what is their biggest downfall - that is there staff that need some serious retraining to their attitudes. Would say with a 1,000 of them about to be laid off morale can only get worse.

Yep, no Platinum love (though no WP1 either). I think they're softening us up for a massive downgrade to Gold, with WP1 slotting in above. :p

The fleet developments are interesting, clearly the a380 is not the star:

They responded to the tweet and it seems the message about priority boarding has been heard and is being investigated.

Premium airline with A320s? Good luck with that.

Yep that'll be the thing. Kill the current platinum level.

Just got a "personal" email from AJ as "one of their most valuable customers"

Directed me here for more info on the changes:

A New Spirit

edit: wtf? do they love kicking platinums in the teeth?

Seems to be more about capital, I think, than performance per se. Extract a bit more return from the 747s before putting the A380s onto the books. Probably helps with cash flow for the new A320s.

I'm still struggling to understand what type of premium airline you get with A320s compared to a premium airline with A380s. Sounds like they are killing off long haul.

Its interesting to go back over the guesses our members posted versus what has been announced, its my impression that we are living in a different world to QF management as a whole, which is not a good sign IMHO.

Call me pessimistic, however I honestly believe this is the beginning of the end for QF mainline.

Original A380 order book (6 planes to come) will not be completed for 10 years! That's if they make it!

New investment in aircraft for Asian based airline.

First 787s to JQ (by the time they arrive, you may see further shuffling).

Just appears to be a lack of investment directed towards mainline.

More of the same....

R.I.P. QF29 into LHR. Loved the lunchtime arrival!
