And passengers are the public.

Any select group of people are also part of 'the public.'

Police are also part of the public, but it doesn't mean you can go anywhere in a police station. Back areas of a police station are restricted to staff and authorised visitors, including of course people making reports - and of course detainees. Back areas of an airport are restricted to ASIC cardholders on official duties, and passengers with identification. Neither are public areas even though people aside from employees are there.

I can only suggest that the next time you are in that area you water one of the plants with your in built "hose". I'm pretty sure that the police will charge you with urinating in a public place.

Good luck with that analogy next time you're in court.

Do read my earlier post. The restriction on access does not make it a private place. The public, who meet the entry requirements, are able to enter the area. That makes it a public place. As a member of the public you do not have any right to privacy in that area from other members of the public who are also legally in that area. If I'm at SYD on way to SIN, and George Michael wanders by, I'm able to pull out my camera dn photograph the man, without any need to get his permission. The restrictions on entry don't make it any less of a public place, they just restrict the ability of other members of the public to also enter that place and photograph you. Clearly, the TV film crews are legally in the immigration area of the airport when filming people.

A police station is actually a workplace that is access controlled by the employer. 1000 people can't just buy a ticket and then wander into the police station.

Or if we look for a legal defintion:

Summary Offences Act 1988 NSW said:
"public place" means:
(a) a place (whether or not covered by water), or
(b) a part of premises,
that is open to the public, or is used by the public whether or not on payment of money or other consideration, whether or not the place or part is ordinarily so open or used and whether or not the public to whom it is open consists only of a limited class of persons, but does not include a school.

Indeed - no right to privacy from another member of the public.

However - as a passenger your movements are strictly controlled - you are required to follow certain official procedures and have to be in certain places at certain times (immigration queue, security queue, quarantine etc).

You have no choice BUT to follow these procedures (you can't just up and leave if you don't ike something).

Therefore you have the right to not be filmed by something like a tv crew - especially as you don't know in advance it will be there.

I'll stand by my original statement that it is a public area and you don't have a right to privacy.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of asking/telling the film crew to not film you. In fact whether the film crew films you or not is entirely a different matter.

And if you think about it, you can choose the time when you follow the strict procedures. The only limitation is when your plane departs and what you need to do once you leave the airport. Once you get off your aircraft there is nothing that says you can't sit down for a rest and you must procedure immediately to immigration and the exit.

And if you think about it, you can choose the time when you follow the strict procedures.

Not without attracting undue attention.

And aside from that, the warnings about filming border security are after you have entered the baggage claim hall. Too late for you to elect to 'sit and wait'. The easy option is just to say you don't want to be filmed. Which is your right.

Tonights epsiode looks like a corker, a classic case of the airfare being less than the parking, somehow it will be thirty minutes of a customer trying without success to get tiger to pay the late fees!

I am confused by this thread. Do Tiger Airways customers really have to urinate infront of Ch.7 cameras?

10 minutes into tonight's episode and manager Sarah is calling the AFP again...... This seems to be the only strategy used for dealing with passenger frustration. AFP must love Tiger

My sister and I were thinking the same thing. I wonder how many times the AFP are called to Tiger in the different airports they operate in, and if the number is significantly higher than any other carriers ;)

The lady with the parking issue was a doozy-the son fell asleep in the car so didnt move it out of the short term car park and TT has to pay!Sounded a bit like Pauline-scary;)

Seems to be a basic lack of ability to deal with the consequences of their own rules. The AFP certainly didn't seem to be very interested in Sarah's little problem. They need to get some mature senior staff, I felt that half their problem seems to be having snotty nosed little ****es giving people the bad news in a very arrogant manner.

Just goes to show that you can be standing in line waiting to check in and they will close the flight on you. Pretty pathetic really. (In saying that I don't care that thems the rules)

I can understand the parking ladies point, and the poor thing must get upset with having such a dill for a son, but I kept wondering how much it was costing her in parking to stand there and have the arguement.

Why dont Tiger put in a ticket system that prints a number for the queue along with time the ticket was issued, agree it sucks to miss your flight check in while still in the queue.

If TT did this they would miss out on the $70 rebooking fee.

I was thinking the same things.

Every week the Tiger agents tell people that they called their flight for check-in and the unfortunate people have a blank look on their face.

If it was true, wouldn't there be some camera footage of it happening. That would close the loop on the customers being in the wrong.

Or if we look for a legal defintion:

That's fine as a definition for areas covered under the Summary Offences act. It doesn't mean that it's applicable elsewhere. People can be charged in many places where the public are as per what this act is about, but it doesn't make them public places in other contexts.

Anyway, time to move on as the new episode has, and just agree to disagree.

It doesn't seem to be a Tiger thing, but more an approach adopted by that particular 'manager.' I'm sure they say that staff can take that as the next step in certain difficult situations, but her approach seems to take that as the course of action more frequently than necessary.

Then again, this show's not for taxing the grey matter. I had to laugh tonight when they said just during the birth segment something like "what are the odds of it being a boy or girl?" Ummm...

"Mathematically" and "scientifically", the odds are, of course, 50%, discounting the possibilities of a miscarriage (or other death of the unborn child), twins or n-uplets.

However, there are "diets" and routines out there that have varying credibility to allow mothers to have more influence on the sex of their baby.

It could also be born a-sexual or a hermaphrodite.

Just watched this weeks episode..

The parking fee woman...are you serious?

Business men I feel a little sorry for, if they did get there early.

Grandmother going to Melbourne...well, I feel sorry for her because she had to fly Tiger! But that doens't matter when you get a health baby! :D

Had to have a chuckle at the footy players though. surprised they coughed up the $70 to be honest.
