TomCat's new digs!

....I wouldn't buy furniture etc for a new build (or even an established one) until I had moved in a....
I feel the same about window coverings.

Guy at work got a quote like $20+K for plantation shutters. My thoughts are you dont know what is being built next door. It could be a brick wall, does it get dawn or sunset light, do you need shades or shutters on all the windows? Bedrooms yes but not all of them - but then again, I like a lot of light.

My preference is to do a lot, like blinds, wardrobe fitout ect after hand over but thats me. I understand wanting a 100% complete home but I like to keep some costs down.

We also organised all our blinds through the builder; cost was comparable, the interior designer helped with selection and its one less thing to worry about.

That makes our blinds sound cheap

It could have been more, I know he was shocked by how much the quote was. The butlers pantry fitout was something like $30K.

Theres a reason why I avoided plantation shutters even though i'd really like them :(
I read somewhere that the pvc shutters were good quality. I love the look of plantation shutters but then I see it as more nooks to collect dust that I have to clean.

We've gone with simple roller blinds and we'll hang sheer curtains over the top.

Reached the end of my rope with the conveyancer/stamp duty mess. The guy just talks loudly at me and won't listen to me....

Hmmm received an email from the conveyancer that actually adressed the problem for a change (theyve sent the correct paperwork). Hopefully we get this refund sorted at last.
thats good news. Nothing worse than feeling caught in the middle and powerless to get things fixed. Particularly when it is a lot of money that wasn’t in the budget.

Oh good. Hope it gets sorted quickly as it’s a pain and even though you know you are in the right, it’s a worry you don’t need.

Grey carpet, white walls and black sofa - don’t like the wood options as there is nothing there to tie together.

They’re also both very heavy pieces so might depend on what size the room is, lighting in it, lines of view etc. and also what the style of the room is.

I’d be inclined to go something that’s black powder coated metal frame and then a white or natural top - provided you have some other natural wood in the room to tie it too.

The black couch was previously paired with a rectangular timber coffee table and looked fine. I'm not really fussed on an overall "look", and the general feel for the rest of the house is scandi (lots of white and timber, this is the only downstairs room with carpet). I hate the black couch with a passion which is why it will be relegated to the sitting room rather than our actual lounge room, and it will probably be replaced at some point.

I have no idea how people can style rooms - I dont have the gene other than the comfy but practical basics.

Must say, Hubby was right about the high backed reclining cinema seats with cup holders. Will be buying them again for the new house when finally built.

Me neither. Thankfully the builder has a designer help you select colours etc....

I consider Dulux paint to be worth the premium price. We had our next door home painted about 23 years ago and it still looks ok.
My brother air freighted Dulux paint to France to paint his country home.

Not too many folks like wasting money so if you use good paint you don't have to re-do the job a couple of years later unless you want a colour change.
