Top Three Holiday Photos

RB, we obviously saw a fair few of the same places in NZ . Sunset Beach at Hokitika, Huka Falls & Waimangu Valley were all on our trip as well. I am now waiting for the glowworm cave at Waitomo:)

I wanted to take her home with us but MRSTMA said No, but you can take the wine instead! She was right of course! Fantastic wines. CUNE imperial now one of my favourite Spanish wines.:p

Mate, you could have told Mrs TMA that you were taking her (and the rest) home for me... :)😜

I love gifts from overseas... :p

I could have spent some time with them practising their English and me practising my Italiano and Espanol (they need brushing-up)... ;):p

Brilliant! I’ll try that next time!.

Actually it was one of our earliest Spanish trips and when we still “tittered” at the Spanish lisp and pronunciations of Patricia as “paˈtrisja”. Like Barthelona and “Thunidad” (Cuidad), Platha (plaza), polithia (polizia), Valladolid and particularly Gijón improve one’s Spanish no end! Gijón is pronounced something like “hi-hon” with a lisp. (Asturian: [ʃiˈʃoŋ])).

Languages are extreme fun!

Working through the drive and realised I was missing our first trip to Thailand. Dug out our oldest hard drive and found a whole bunch of photos including the missing 2006 holiday. coughet, Phi Phi Don and Bangkok. Off season so half price hotels but also ordinary weather. It was before we knew how inappropriate it was to ride an elephant or feed one outside of the restaurant of our coughet hotel. We know much better now...

The ocean front villas at Marina coughet. Up to then, the nicest hotel room we'd ever stayed in. Sure it's not what a lot here would rate but we still do 14 years later. Great location, wonderful staff and if we do return to coughet we'll very possibly stay here again, in a jungle room next time

edit - I just checked their website and they have the same photos that were there 14 years ago. Guessing if we did return it would all be very familiar ;)

Phi Phi was a strange place. It was devastated by the tsunami. The area behind the dock was a jumble of broken concrete and timber. ANother place we'd like to go back to.

The piles of smashed construction materials around a broken building

The thought of this meal bought at a local open restaurant by the river next to the Hilton still makes me chuckle. Just about everything on the English menu was prawns. A local came over to us and said if you're ok with seafood, just point and order.

Some local Thai prawns :)

2012 and it was back to Thailand again.

We caught the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (I spent the day after regretting staying up most of the night drinking in the 'disco' carriage), three night Intrepid Golden Triangle tour (Doi Mae Salong-Chiang Rai), Railay Beach, Bangkok. It was our first trip with a friend who we have now holidayed with twice more and would have travelled to SA with in July. Another great holiday. Loved Chiang Mai, loved Railay. The Intrepid wasn't that great, mainly due to a disinterested guide, and a couple of stops that seemed intrusive.

Thailand is a riot of amazing colour, the food a riot of amazing flavours, and colour as well

It's also both beautifully peaceful and crazy frantic and the people are just beautiful

This was a visit to a school that Intrepid sponsored

We gave Waitomo a miss. :) We did visit Taupo & Raglan on the way back to Auckland

We went through Taupo on the way to Napier from Rotorua. Raglan we didn't visit. The only bit of western coastline we saw up that way was around Kawhia, a bit further south.
