Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid. Collection

Much prefer this to the Prado! Was essentially a private collection originally.

We felt the same. It seems to have no real 'theme' for the collection but is "a best of the best" type of experience and includes some stunning works of art.
Yes. Stunning to think that these paintings were once part of a private collection then donated to the state by his wife after he died.

Every time we go to Madrid, we always go and spend a few hours there. Made the mistake of having lunch in their out door cafe last time. Was some of the worst overpriced food we have had in Madrid. Such a disappointment.

Amusing the huge queues for the Prado in the morning. After 2 , no queue! Went there specifically to catch their Caravaggio last year - they had loaned it to another museum for exhibition!

I too loved the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum but I also enjoyed the Prado - they are really quite different. Just made me go back to my photos of Madrid :(

Just wait until I finish my England TR and haven't posted my Antarctic photos to my friends yet (AFF got first look at them!!) :p
Don't worry. Lockdown will last for months So you won’t have any other travel photos to worry about. Do you use Flickr?

No I have a Wordpress blog which I used all the time but I'm having trouble posting photos and then writing some things next to it like I used to so I got sick of that and started doing the UK TR

The problem with Prado was the crowds inside around some of the paintings and especially Velasquez's Las Meninas . Also, by that stage of our trip we had seen enough 'religious' paintings and portraits of ugly members of the Spanish aristocracy. (I know I am being unfair to the Prado's collection but cultural overload had definitely crept in.)

TheRealTMA - we were going to eat at that outdoor cafe but had a look at the prices and moved on.

I recommend Flickr. Only started using it in 2011 but have some 20000+ photos on it.:)

A friend's 50th birthday saw us off to HK for a long weekend. First time we've ever had a bag go astray - my partners. Usually so careful with sharing across bags but it had all of our toiletries, our chargers. It arrived on day three! Just meant he had to shop. All covered by insurance claim...

Apart from getting there and our hotel, it was all expenses paid and no expenses spared. A fantastic weekend. We had to come home to dry out :)

Ok, so our first night didn't maybe indicate the no expenses spared, but it did indicate the reason why we had to come home to dry out...

A very classy birthday wish...

The afternoon after the night before. Night two was dinner on The World. Next afternoon, out on the harbour on Aqua Luna

How could you not love HK. Star Ferries are so cool. I fear the worst with what China is now putting place...

I always have much more leave accrued that bigal. I get more lsl each year than him and at the time was working lots of overtime that was paid by time in lieu. bigal suggested that me and the friend we'd travelled a couple of times with take a long weekend away. He suggested Melbourne. We booked 10 days in Bali!

March 2015 Lovina-Ubud-Seminyak

I loved nearly everything about Bali. We went in off season so there were no crowds, we picked well with starting in Lovina. A nearly empty resort staffed by beautiful people

Nature was everywhere

SAM_9454.JPG

I did a solo rice paddy walk in Ubud that ended with lunch in the house of the guy who I walked with. Ubud itself was meh

SAM_9655.JPG

We finished in a villa in Seminyak and it was just wonderful. For my third photo I'm torn between a villa photo, a villa garden photo or a food photo

Potato Head for lunch. Full of pretentious influencers but beautiful architecturally and the food was good

August/September 2015. East Greenland Expedition on The World. We started with six days in Iceland. The expedition ended in St Johns but we stayed on the ship until Quebec City then caught trains for stays in Montreal and NYC. Five weeks, three photos...

Iceland was amazing. We can't wait to go back.

We took lots of photos of amazing waterfalls, relaxed in hot pools, took in the epic landscapes, but Husavik was an unexpected find, a beautiful fishing town on the north coast

As we arrived at the entrance of Scoresbysund the one animal we didn't expect to see on this trip was...

SAM_0355.JPG

we saw so much amazing scenery, did so many amazing things, but a bbq set up on a peninsula of granite boulders with the Old Fossils, the resident's band playing, and the ship in the distance was just surreal
