"TrouserGate" - Australian Cricketers Caught Ball Tampering

I hope I'm wrong, but J Langer has been in and around the Australian system for a while now and somehow I just think it's going to be more of the same with very little change.

Gillespie was the choice that was required, but CA (and how the board/executives have escaped criticism is beyond me, but another story) went down the usual towing the company line route IMO.
I disagree. The team needs discipline and a revamp of their culture. Too many ‘boys’ in charge and playing. Lack of leadership. Maybe the reason why Langer has been in the backblocks is because the ‘boys’ were in control. That’s changed now. I don’t see Gillespie as offering that leadership.

You obviously haven't been keeping an eye on Gillespie as a coach then.

It's certainly happened before. It's almost like you were sledging other participants in this thread.

If there was a betting option, I'd bet my house that no sponsors pull the pin, CA will likely relieve Smith, Warner & Lehman of their leadership positions. If that isn't enough as I've said before, people are clearly too emotional and not being rational about punishment.

So what would you consider sufficient, if it's for them to be outed for the game for a lengthy period, you are completely off the mark and it will not happen.

That is sledging hey, I and others on the cricket oval have been doing it wrong for far too long then :rolleyes:. Seems someone may be trying to do that to yours truly with the past few posts ;).

I was wrong on the bans, happy to admit that. I still think they were way over the top (which a fair few players & their union have also come out and said) and the reason for that they were over the top is that people were being far to emotional and not rational on the issue (some still even think the bans aren't enough), and I'm happy to stand by that.

And what one fairly measly sponsor (in the scheme of their sponsor values) - all major sponsors have remained as expected. Players sponsors were always going to pull their deals until they get back in the team.

I certainly have. I just don’t think he’s the right person just now. It’s an opinion. He’s from SA. I do kinda know the traps down here.

And the ACA were not particularly upset with what happened and nor were many players past and present.

Fair enough, apologies. I just like how he has experience in a few different set-ups now, he also has very limited contact with the CA set-up which I believe would be a massive plus in creating a new culture.

Langar is fine, I just think Dizzy would be better. It's good having some opposing views on the appointment though - shows we're all still passionate about it!

Does this make any difference to the condemnation of Warner and his method of arrival back in Oz? 'I paid the ultimate price': Candice Warner tells of miscarriage after ball-tampering scandal
Not in my eyes. Just another part of the attempt to rebuild their public image. I’m sure the AWW interview was arranged by Roxy Jacenko’s PR firm and Candice Warner’s cross promotional instagram post that she “sat down with AWW’s talented Lizzie Wilson” doesn’t IMO add any credence.

I feel sorry she lost a baby but as a devoted follower since Adam was a boy, I just want them to play cricket. I'm over publicity seeking WAGs, cricketers who work harder at their image than their game and administrators who lost concern for the fans yonks ago.

Anyone my age will know many women who've had miscarriages, since something like 10%-15% of all pregnancies end in the first trimester.

"I paid the ultimate price" is something I'm yet to hear from my friends, though. "I wonder how all those who came after me feel now?" Nah.

My comment not in response to her reported miscarriage but the stage managed manner she chose to convey the message.

I'm not convinced that her assertion that "... the girls will always come first" is reinforced by using photos her two young daughters to promote the article, especially when she earlier claimed that (on returning back from South Africa, girls in arms) "I was completely gutted when I saw the media”.

Yes there are a fair proportion of pregnancies that end in miscarriage (my sister has just been through one), and undue stress can lead to a miscarriage occurring. But how you find it ok for people to vitriolically attack her which has led more then likely to the miscarriage, for an act her husband performed, is beyond me.

Ok, with that one word after her quote it would seem in the above comment that there's no need to feel bad for attacking her over the saga. But easily enough addressed - should people feel bad or not for attacking her personally over this whole saga (when she has done absolutely nothing to deserve it)?

The article's whole premise is surrounding her miscarriage after the attacks levelled at her personally on the whole saga. So whether you agree or not with how it was staged, it isn't really the issue here is it? But rather whether you agree with the (unwarranted) personal attacks directed at her and the damage they ultimately caused?

I'd also have to disagree in that there's a major difference between the situation they were walking into stepping off the plane from SA and now 'her story'. Of course you're going to be gutted when you think your walking through a private exit from the airport, when it turns out not to be anything but 'private', so you can understand why she was gutted to see the media scrum but they just ploughed on through (to much disdain of many Australians). This story though is all about their family struggles after the saga and that the girls will always come first, so wouldn't it be weird having a portrait photo of only her after the story? I'm no editor, but having the kids in the photo after the premise of the story makes a fair bit of sense.

I still believe that CA handled the whole thing badly, and am still of the opinion that Sutherland should go. The 3 boys should have been sent home and the enquiry held here. I also see the punishment as OTT. And what I have always felt was inappropriate was the SA fans and the Australian media and commentariat attacking Mrs Warner for supporting her husband and feel this would have contributed to the stress and subsequent miscarriage.

Sutherland, goooone. Good riddance, this should have happened a while ago.

One has to wonder (especially with the Head of Integrity getting a 'redundancy' last week) whether he got the quite tap on the shoulder about resigning, rather then ultimately being forced out publicly??

I know, makes it seem that we'll end up with more of the same doesn't it.
Not necessarily to me. Makes me think he is not being forced out and CA will look far and wide for a replacement. I would think it was likely trousergate affected his decision but maybe he now wants to do other things. 17 years in a job is more than long enough - pity people like John Coates and Sepp Blatter, who had to be prised out, didn't take the same view as Sutherland
