TV series discussion {'ware Spoiler Alert}

Surely they could film at any time of the year and just touch up the lighting effects with filters or other special effect techniques.

I've heard of lots of TV shows which film during the day and then change the end effect to make sure it looks like the scene was set at night.

Generally most of the filming starts mid-late September.

However Spain and Croatia are quite sunny. Dalmatia reportedly gets ~300 sunny days, more then Sydney.

Most of the Dorne and Essos scenes were filmed in Spain and a couple in Dubrovnik for Kings Landing.

I guess they might want a more authentic look. Plus I guess it cuts down on CGI.

got the kids the free netflix trial for the school holidays. 50% of monthly data allowance used up in a week. They're currently in the end zone for Gilmore Girls. That has been rather confusing as I was sure one of my ex-es watched the show in the mid to late 1990s. But turns out in first came out in 2000.
Much teenager disdain for claiming to have seen the show, when I couldn't have.

My teen daughter has worked her way through DVDs of the Gilmore Girls a couple of times but then the box set of Buffy and then Angel became the thing. Somewhere in there she watched Heroes. Now working through Charmed (which is about three levels below the other shows) and she's not that impressed. What other good series can anyone recommend for this demographic? I was thinking Veronica Mars and maybe Felicity (can't get that on DVD in Australia apparently). A bit young for True Blood though!

Oldest daughter, teen, is big into Supernatural. Partly why she's on Gilmore Girls because of Jared Padalecty (however it's spelt) who was in both. She's also watched the Chris Lilley shows on netflix in the last week. I think she sometimes watches Jonathon Creek. And I've got her to enjoy a couple of episodes of Yes Minister. And loves Fawlty Towers - the younger daughter as well on that one. At least I think she likes those last couple, she's not usually one to humour me. I'll assume the lack of outright contempt is the same as liking the show.

The 100 seems fairly popular in that age bracket (and is available via AU Netflix). Vampire Diaries (or somesuch) is also popular with the yoofs.

If she liked Gilmore Girls, see if you can find Bunheads (by the same creator but, alas, only run one season.)

And there's always 26 seasons of The Simpsons to catch up on.

Watching a 4 part series called Cooked - available from Netflix. Quite enjoyable if you are interested in food.

I thought Cooked was very well done too. Beautiful imagery and a nice change from the normal style of cooking TV we see.

Another one for Netflix viewers, Orange is the New Black really stepped up this season, best yet I think.

But some 20+ years older.. I think it has stood the test of time. Loved it a couple of months ago when MT answered a Leigh Sales question with "you might very well say so, I couldn't possibly comment". Pure gold!

Oh I certainly enjoyed it, don't get me wrong.

But the US certainly refined it when they made their version. More nuanced.

I have just finished chaining the original House of Cards.

Lots of twists and turns, but I think the US version was just a little more sophisticated.
Love H of C - just how powerful are 2 leads? JT have you seen Boss with Kelsey Grammer in it? If not - do yourself a favour - how this series was let die is beyond me.

It looks interesting. I am not sure I want to start a series that has no ending though. Thoughts of Firefly spring to mind.

We are watching HoC (US) on Netflix at present and it really is excellent. We enjoyed the UK one but this is quite different with a lot more to the plot IMO. Also watching Season 6 of GOT - enjoying it more than Season 5.

Star Trek the all new Star trek is something I am very much looking forward to, since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005 it's been empty. Its said to premiere on CBS in January 2017 before moving to All Access, the series will introduce new characters to the Star Trek franchise and will not be related to the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond.

When it will be in Oz is a big question

Sounds interesting. Hope it's a sequel not a prequel as they'll just screw up timelines and all that if they reboot the series, like the current movies/Enterprise. That said, I enjoy the current movies so if they set it a couple generations on from those movies to incorporate the changed elements in those movies from the originals, that'd be fine.

Agree. I keep hoping it will return. House of Cards is excellent and waiting for the next series. We liked Bloodlines S1 but S2 seems not quite so good.
