Thank you @maia200. I really appreciate the comments. It does take a bit of effort some times to update the report and I hope I’m not boring everyone. Yes we are fortunate to be able to be away for so long and are lucky to have good neighbours and family to look after things at home for us.

I am very impressed with your diligence in doing your TR @Scash.
I have a much better understanding of the time it takes to upload photos and relay your experiences now that we are on The Alphabet Trip.
So good on you - and all the other AFF er's whose journeys I have recently followed @drron @bPeteb, @RooFlyer @Pushka @blackcat20 @LostRedditor et al.

Definitely takes a lot of time and effort. Confession....I have thought of starting TR and taken photos etc and then thought what the heck....who really cares and then I don't remember half of what I thought was so special. I admire your constant interest in keeping us updated.

Budapest is an interesting city and has a good vibe to it. There is the picturesque part by the Danube river and other parts away from the river that are a bit “down and dirty”.

Some interesting statues and art pieces. There are statues scattered around that instead of being historical or political figures they are of everyday real people. There also a number of small statues around that represent various parts of Hungarian life and history (parliament house is across the river from the small tank).

And the sad part of Hungarian history. These shoes represent the millions of Jews killed during the WW2. This spot is also of significance as it is where local Jews were lined up and shot, with their bodies falling in to the river .

And when in hungry…eat Hungarian goulash. Not sure if this was the best example as I thought it was rather bland. The local cakes we had lated made up for it and were spectacular.

Our last night in Budapest and off to Salzburg in the morning. Found this place not far from where we staying. We got a whole chook, salad and potatoes and all very nice. The chook wasn’t as big as you’d get at home but plenty of food and we didn’t finish it. All washed down with a cold beer and glass of Rose.

We arrived in Salzburg about 1:00pm and just had a wander round. It is so picturesque and exactly what I imagined it to be. I think it could be one of the prettiest places I‘ve seen.



After all that walking we obviously need to rehydrate . An Aperol Spritz for me and a Hugo Spritz for the bride. We hadn’t heard of a Hugo Spritz before and we’ve been missing out as it was damn delicious

Our second day in Salzburg saw us on a tour to Eagles Nest / Hitlers Lair. The bus takes you through some beautiful countryside and then most of the way up the mountain. You then stop and hop on dedicated electric buses which take the the final few kilometres as it is a narrow one way road.

It was a bit misty when we arrived so the photos are not super clear. Even on a good day I don’t think photos would do it justice. It’s just truly stunning

We then stopped for lunch at a beautiful little village called Berchtesgaden for lunch.
