Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

The is real anti-Boris feeling out there, but so often when you scratch the surface it is totally without any real substance. My daughter had quite a bit to do with him, both at the Palace and later in the City. And a lovelier fellow you will not meet - far from the demon everyone makes him out to be.

On the topic of Boris, according to the Daily Squat (a couple of weeks ago)::D
Comedian Matt Lucas has announced that he will be retiring his popular Boris Johnson character after two decades of hilarity.

‘Mad Boris’ was Lucas’ breakout character in the late 90s but he has decided to retire the comic creation after admitting his faux political run has gone too far.
‘At first, creating this fantastic satire of the Conservatives was hugely liberating and it really got me noticed. All I had to do was pop on a silly blond wig and talk bollocks with a posh accent.
‘Then everything started to become strange. The Tories embraced the character that was mocking them and soon I became an MP. I thought there was no harm in that really. Then I became Major of London. Again, another meaningless job. But now it looks like Boris is going to end up as Prime Minister and, as bizarrely beautiful as that may be: enough is enough.’

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Anyone read about BritExit Bonanza being talked on the net referring to those who made a coin on the falling share market and GBP?

Quite a few people made money with the destruction of the UK. Problem is the majority of the populace lost out.

'No more Polish vermin'
In some areas, residents have reported finding laminated cards with the words "Leave the EU, no more Polish vermin" in letterboxes.

The Polish Embassy in London released a statement yesterday, saying it was "shocked and deeply concerned".

"We are shocked and deeply concerned by the recent incidents of xenophobic abuse directed against the Polish community and other UK residents of migrant heritage," the statement read.

"We call on all Polish nationals who fall victim of ,,,,,,,, xenophobic abuse and on all witnesses to report such incidents to local authorities."

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Apparently Polish are the most populous migrant group in the UK. Would not have guessed.

Loved Cameron's comment to Corbyn.

Had no idea they were the most populous ....
i guess it goes back to Yalta where decisions were made by the Big Three regarding New borders ( lose of land in the East) borders and being in the sphere of Stalins Soviet interests. Basically another 55 yrs of war and continued destruction for Poland. Until totally new president without any ties to communism/ leftist was finally elected last year. We found out recently Lech Walesa was actually a double agent. "According to documents he was called "Bolek""

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

I suspect most of the Brexit stay vote was due to racism.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

So all the people attacking people of Indian, African and Polish ethnicity ain't racist?

Many accounts of Anglo-Celts Attacking migrants post brexit.

I expect a sizeable minority probably was. I expect the majority who voted for Brexit didn't want so much money going to EU ""bureaucrats" and also wanted the UK to escape the ridiculous myriad of regulations that the EU has become .... or at the very least paid attention to what was written on the side of buses that x million dollars a day would be redirected from the EU to the NHS (apparently not though, now) :-)

Wonder what the odds would be that most if not all of those statements could have also have been made in the week, month or year before the Brexit vote. Lets look again:

There have even been cases of violent assault, vandalism, and group intimidation. The police have been involved in several cases."

Goodness gracious! Several cases of police involvement in instances of violent assault etc in the past week. This in a country with 64 million people. Strewth!

Not saying that and the rest are trivial things before or now, but the implication that this is somehow new or as a result of the vote is another manifestation of the Stayers grasping at ever increasing ludicrous straws and making wilder and wilder claims. I've said it before - with an argumentative capacity like that, no wonder they lost.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

I'm curious if the current rash of racism is pure correlation. Having seen some pretty vile racist/xenophobic verbal stoushes in my time in the UK, I have no doubt a very small subset of the population are bigots.

But were these reported, recorded and analysed previously? Like in Australia, I think many people shrug their shoulders and never go to the police. The current brexit hysteria is whipping up this current correlation IMHO.

Interesting to see the FTSE 100 has recovered it's losses FTSE 100 closes above pre-Brexit level - BBC News
