Re: Should I stay or should I go (EuroZone)

The funeral march is playing for the EU tick tock tick tock .... I don't know yet but half of the people are pissed of with the current situation

I wonder what they will do if the vote is essentially tied after three re-counts... Couldn't happen to a "nicer" group of politicians.

Happy wandering

You're predicting a hung parliament?:p;):shock::lol:

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

It costs UK $Billions each year to be dictated to by Brussels despite the fact Christine Lagarde et al are hopeless. UK would be mad not to leave.

What utter nonsense. far from being dictated to, the UK plays a very meaningful role in Europe wide negotiations and discussions (.How many of Britain's laws REALLY come from the EU? The Brexit question no one can answer - Mirror Online) this shows the influence of the EU but these laws would likely be there already. Yes the UK pays billions per year to be part of the club, but that brings rewards itself, the EU trade deals are gargantuan when compared to those that the UK negotiates itself. As for Christine Lagarde, she works for the IMF, not the EU, and before that she was a national pollie. Not sure who the et all are.

Is the EU perfect, far from it. Is Europe better for the EU existing, absolutely. Is the UK better as part of the EU, in my opinion, yes.

BTW before the European Court of Human Rights is through around, this was driven and developed by the UK

Your arguments are sound but I just do not agree with you, except for EU being far from perfect. My opinion is UK will be better far better off being a Sovereign nation . I am with Trump!! ( he is in the UK now ) Daily Telegraph online

I suspect that would require a third (or fourth) option. That only happens in southern countries...

So if the EU so good why didn't they dump the pound for the Euro? Lucky for them they did what they to keep it separate.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Fair enough disagreement is good.

I would however, argue that the UK is still sovereign within the EU. The States and Territories within the Commonwealth of Australia are sovereign in and of themselves, as it the UK. I know that a lot of people (the blonde mop BJ (descendant from migrants fleeing Turkey I believe) and Nigel Farage (his family fled persecution in France)) run the immigration line but if the UK wants to remain in the single market, and for London to remain a financial powerhouse, they will still need to allow for the free movement of goods, services and people between the UK and the EU. This will then not stop, and I'm being deliberately provocative here, all the eastern Europeans coming 'over 'ere an nicking our jobs'.

The EU is also as democratic as any other parliament in the UK. Elections are held regularly, the parliament appoints certain positions. Just because the vast majority of people cant be bothered to get up off the backsides and vote doesn't mean its corrupt, out of touch or undemocratic.

I know that I'm personally biased. For the little part of Europe that I'm from the EU has literally been a saviour, from jobs to investment, and most importantly, it help to silence the guns after decades of trouble.

On the balance of things, I'd rather be in than out.

Marki, could you post a link to the story that you mention in the torygraph. I don't normally read it so I'm not sure of my way around the site.

I'd back my "utter nonsense" against your alien view any day. In fact as soon as I read "utter nonsense" I just knew this was an emotional argument for you rather than a reasoned one.

Of course Christine Lagarde is the head of the IMF (I have no idea why would quite erroneously infer I suggested she was employed by the EU) but maybe you are unaware of her very vocal support (speaking officially on behalf of the IMF) of UK staying in the EU, which I was actually alluding to. Her allegiances are very Euro-centric and she (the IMF) and the European Commission have collaborated closely to make no substantive progress in resolving the financial disasters affecting all of the EU but Spain, Greece and Portugal etc in particular and the massive unemployment choking the whole European economy since the GFC. The UK is being held back because it is shackled to those incompetents. You are apparently clueless to the the fact that Europe's access to UK markets far outweighs any advantage the UK gets from access to theirs.

And as for laws, the pertinent point is not how many laws the UK "gets from the EU" but rather the fact that as things stand the UK is obliged to accept the decisions of the European Courts. What self respecting nation would willingly consent to that?

Agree. Not good.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

And you can see why this poll divides family and friends.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Today's polls are saying that 11% of voters are undecided. Why would anyone who is undecided vote in a voluntary referendum? English people aren't the most motivated and energetic in the world.

I may be pedantic but it isn't an English referendum
