Unable to link Complimentary lounge Invitation

This at least explains the problems I have been having. Mrs H and Young Mr H are travelling to Brisbane next week. I had wanted to give them lounge access. I transferred two passes to Mrs H and got them linked to the flights. I transferred two passes to Master H and they would not link to the flights. I transferred them from his account to Mrs H because I hoped she could use them for accompanying passengers. No dice. The passes will not transfer now, nor have I been able to transfer two more passes to Master H. I cannot cancel Mrs H's passes. I have spent days puzzling over this and hours on the phone to various agents.

It would have been so much simpler to send an email to all members to say that passes have been suspended for the school holidays rather than the vague disclaimer on the website that many people will never see, and offers false hope that everything is still OK.

And apart from not telling anyone, how very dare they? They use the passes to attract people to their credit cards - and then tell people (or don't tell them) they can't use them at just the time they are most likely to want to use them.

At least this thread is giving me time to manage expectations. The idea of people with linked passes being denied entry fills me with horror. Do they not realise that these perks matter so much. It is a way for a hard working member to offer a benefit to a family member - and if those family members end up being humiliated instead of treated, it could create an enemy for life. Such short sightedness.

I have read people have had trouble linking passes due to a suspension during school holidays, not sure if this relates to transferring too.

I have had problems linking lounge passes since November last year. At that time, I took a screen shot of the rejection, and showed it to the Lounge staff who allowed me entry. It’s not a new thing, it is just another long term Qantas IT issue which will never be fixed. Right now, they’re fobbing people off claiming with the school holidays, the lounges are crowded. That may be true, but nothing will change after schools go back.

The website has the disclaimer

We may suspend the use of Complimentary Lounge Invitations during peak travel periods such as school holidays. During these periods, you'll be unable to link the invitation to a booking and passes will not be accepted at the lounge.

Given the number of people travelling I would expect that they have been suspended. I had read of a family who were able to link the passes but then were denied entry. That is pretty poor as the system should not have allowed it in the first place.

When transferring the pass, there is no indication which lounge, and even travel date, that the pass will be used for.
The restriction is to linking to a flight, not the transfer.
I can't transfer (was able to do it 3 weeks ago no worries)
Website broken.

I linked a pass two weeks ago with no issues

I tried to transfer two passes today, but nothing happened. The passes won't be used until later in the year, so I have time to wait a week or might even telephone to have them transferred.

I completely understand suspended passes during school holidays, that happens a few times every year. So suspending the linking of passes to flights makes sense. Transferring complimentary passes has nothing to do with school holidays though.

Qantas has always had the disclaimer that complimentary passes might not be allowed if a lounge is full. Nothing new there. Hence there is no need to send emails to thousands of customers who won't even be flying during school holidays, nor have passes anyway.

"The idea of people with linked passes being denied entry fills me with horror." o_O "Do they not realise that these perks matter so much."
I think you are being overdramatic here.

That refers to a specific lounge at a particular moment - not every lounge for a fortnight.

You may think what you please. My family are easily embarrassed and being turned away from a lounge that they had expected to get entry to would embarrass them. But some people might be less embarrassed. A bit like some people are mortified when their credit card is declined when others just shrug it off.

Won’t allow linking to a Sept JQ flt either - I thought I must be doing something wrong - I guess we just try again in a couple weeks huh?

Have a Mel Syd flight tomorrow afternoon and wanted to link a pass about to expire and Q website not allowing...GRRR Anyone know a hack around this or if they will extend the expiration date given I cant use??? Thanks so much!!!

Seems there are two issues discussed in this thread -

- being able to transfer a pass to another QFF account holder

- being able to link a pass to a specific flight/booking (perhaps due to lounge access limitations)

I've certainly transferred a pass or two in the past week. Maybe others have had problems but I haven't.

Linking... well no I've not had to myself for obvious reasons, but definitely the restrictions as noted on the page currently (and do change) can be very frustrating.

So have I.
Not now though. Its broken.
When going to enter the Transferee details, the dropdown usually lets you select which pass, by Expiry date, you wish to transfer (assuming you have more than one).
Now it is frozen on the first pass, dropdown doesnt even work.
Trying to complete transfer of this pass, the screen just refreshes to blank details back to the start point.
You'd probably have the same issue if you tried today

It’s definitely broken
I just tried to transfer a pass to someone and it the screen just refreshes and it hasn’t transferred.
Time for another email to the VIP team

I have also had an ongoing issue for 2 months regarding using passes and no link option , all tweets have gone un answered , when I can get thru on a call I've been asked to sent a screenshot , I never get an email back

If my wife is Oneworld Sapphire and we are travelling on a NZ7696 flight number on QF metal can she still use the lounge ???
I have individual Club membership , can in take 2 x children in travelling on the same flight

Looks like the dropdown has been replaced with a text box entry field? Web dev team mistake I think.

I assume passes which expire during school holidays won’t be extended? That’s a bit tough on people who also couldn't use them during Covid and saved them for when they were actually able to take a holiday.
Not that I was going to use it (I was going to offer it up on AFF) but I have a pass due to expire tomorrow. The reality is it effectively “expired” when school holidays started. It’s all well and good to have disclaimers but most people wouldn’t know about this practice until actually trying to use the passes. Too late by then. Just another enhancement I suppose.

I respectfully disagree. It would not be difficult to email members who do have passes due to expire just as a courtesy.
In the email add in a “by the way…your pass is useless during school holidays..”
3 lines of code in a database query, job done.

As an aside, which state(s) do they base the school holiday period on?

As an aside, which state(s) do they base the school holiday period on?
The capital city of the State during their own school holidays. And then all the capital cities when NSW, QLD and WA have their school holidays. So usually a three week period around Easter, July and September/October. A lose/lose situation for customers.

Hi All,

Is anyone else unable to transfer lounge invitations to others?

It's usually a simple process...but it's not working on both my laptop or phone.
I have multiple invitations, but the drop-down on the transfer section does not budge, and after submitting it simply returns to the same screen..

Your thoughts/suggestions appreciated..

Cheers
