So there goes my other theory as well of leaving for SYD a day early.

Risky for me as the route goes through some low areas that might be flooded, though the Gateway was announced as being toll free, so perhaps there are no issues along it’s stretch past the airport and onto the Gold Coast, but I’d hate to find out the wrong way.

As for you leaving tomorrow, I haven’t heard anything to say that you wont be able to, though the flood maps don’t paint a pretty picture of the airport, so you’ll just have to wait and see.

Had I not gone to SYD earlier this week i may have been tempted to fly up and join you... But isn't the train a fair way off the ground anyway? you might be in luck! :o

At this stage I will be returning to Australia on QF32 from LHR arriving into SYD at 8.15PM on Friday. I will stay at the ICH that evening and I have tentatively booked Quay for 9.30pm. (Any Takers).

Mmm, Quay.

I'd join you, but I'm going to be sitting in the State Theatre at about that time. Depending on what time you/I finish, could catch up for a few beverages afterwards though?

I'm staying a few blocks away at the Westin.

I will have a large suite so if there a few ppl who want to come back to mine for some drinks that will be minty!!

Almost too late to leave tomorrow unless I change the flights before midnight. If tomorrow is going to be an issue there is no guarantee that Friday is going to be any better.

Hopefully Coachtrans is still operating on Friday as I really need to get out of here.

THey were having issues with airtrain today, South Brisbane station flooded, so not sure it will be much better tomorrow.

Qantas and virgin are allowing free change to all flights so no need to do it by midnight. Check the website for details. Unless your with tiger....

I don't believe the free change allows you to leave earlier than actual flight.

To be able to change flights free of charge you would need to defer travel to a later date or store the value of the airfare as credit to be used later....

I can't remember the exact word but I seem to recall that it was expressed in terms of changes if you have been disrupted by the floods. A disruption could require leaving early or going later. I believe it is worth ringing an asking to see what they say.

Btw I'm still booked to fly up to BNE on Friday for a funeral but, depending on tonight, if I want to change it I'll be asking for a refund. Virgin was offering a refund and it can't hurt to ask QF to match. But that's another issue.

It says quite clearly changes can be made on the day of departure, and you are returning to your port of origin.

Actually I am departing from my port of origin. :( ;)

The Origin part is not related to the changes on the day part, I would go home early, resources and food, electricity etc will be a problem anywhere near the CBD, and don't forget both the New England and Pacific Hwys are not getting trucks through.

I would not get a free change as the ticket is a BNE-SYD return. Also I do not think I can make changes on the day of departure as I do not meet the conditions of the changes allowed by QF on a cheap red e-deal.

I have plenty of food and water so that is not an issue. Only concern would be getting to airport on Friday but I think that will be OK by then.

John, you can make changes on the day of departure regardless of fare type, ring QF if you don't believe what you read, QF and the airlines are being very flexible, you should try to be flexible as well.

I think you are missing the point that Qantas is waiving some of the conditions, and they state that domestic fares can be changed on day of departure. I would suggest if you want to try for an earlier flight you should do so.

OK I am still confused. I have a flight for 14 January and you are saying I can change it on 13 January to depart 13 January free of charge? How about if the airfare paid is $75 but the airfare on the day is $104?

If that is the case I shall assess the situation tomorrow. Office is closed tomorrow and will more than likely be closed on Friday as well. If I am going to lose 3 days pay then I may as well leave early.

That is basically the case. Check the qantas website note about the floods for full details. They have waived fare conditions as mentioned, so no change fee. But fare difference has to be paid iirc

I managed to change my flights that was supposed to be flown today to next Monday, completely free of charge. Fare conditions would normally restrict changes on the day of departure (I made the changes very late at night and it is technically on the day of departure, i.e. within 7 hours or so to be precise).

I think they check for inventory compatibility but otherwise all it took was a quick call, ask for a date change and if you're happy with the timings they'll look for similar else outline your options.

QF on their website have made it clear that you can make changes to domestic bookings on the day of departure, but it must be made before departure time. So call early - or now!

OK curiosity got the better of me so I called QF.

Apparently QF will turn a blind eye to the change fee and the rule about changes on the day of departure but if I want to leave tomorrow I have to let them know I am leaving early.

I need to make sure I can get out to the airport before making any changes....
