That's only the extra 10K points, the first 20K are free :)

Yes I know but with 20K points you really cannot go anywhere much in QFF, maybe SYD-AKL on Y 1-way which you can just buy the ticket very cheaply anyway, or the other way SYD-PER 1 way Y where VA J Points + Pay option beats it with a knockout.

20K of points is the net cost of a JASA that earns 140 SC or 25% SG requal ;)

Don't take them then. Sheesh. I'll happily add the 20K towards my current balance in part payment for an xASA to the states later this year.

Funny how people complain about something that's absolutely free, no strings attached ...

Yes for savvy AFFers it may be a big deal to requal to SG but this is a J* card aiming at leisure travellers ....... Do they really care about QF Gold?

The fact they are offering QFF points, insurance etc would suggest this is not aimed at leisure travellers, especially as it was a QFF email that promoted it!

There is a cost: your credit history.

I am not saying not signing up at all but all I am saying that it is not as good value as it is perceived.

For me 30K Amex MR points > 30K SQ KF Miles > 30K DJ Velocity points > 30K QFF miles.

There is always credit card promos all the time and it is better for people to pick the best card to sign up, unless they do not care about their credit rating.

Thank you for reminding me: QF is becoming J* ;)

I notice there's different tracking numbers in the URL depending which link you click to apply - from the email mine has "offer=A324632" whereas from the Jetstar website it has "offer=A324660". Fortunately having the email from them should make it easier to raise issues in the event that the points don't appear.

Its not citibank, its the Millionaires factory: Card Services is a division of Macquarie Bank Limited (ABN 46 008 583 542)

Hmm, you might be right. "Card services" is a gig that's run by citibank and manages other banks cards, I've had a credit union card run by them before and had the joys of dealing with the same citibank call centres (a quick web search will find them and their relationship to citi). It does sound like this is different though. Guess it's just a coincidence, I hope!

I rather like Plane Talking's (Yeah I know) take on the 30,000 point offer-
With the offer to take out a Jetstar Platinum Mastercard account you only get the 30,000 Qantas frequent flyer points, which will fly you either nowhere, or somewhere close to nowhere, if you spent $5000 on it by 31 May, or 20,000 points for any lesser purchase amount by the same deadline. Which is another way of saying “here is 20,000 Qantas points for spending $20 on anything” and “spent another $4980 for 10,000 more Qantas points”, the former being attractive and the latter being rather ordinary.

Card Services is often a division of a bank dealing with credit cards, this card is offered by Macquarie as per the website: terms and conditions

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, 30,000 points is 30,000 points. For those like me who are happy to use another card for a couple of months and rack up the $5000 when you would have done that on another card anyway (and my everyday card is 1:1 so no loss there) then what's there to loose? 30,000 is an adelaide/singapore for me with 5000 change. My last redemtion was for the same in first (via melbourne) for 90,000. Without doing too much maths that makes 30,000 points worth $2000-$3000 if you're that way inclined. For me and many others this seems like a perfectly reasonable deal without much risk other than some time. I'm in!

Certainly clicking on the jetstar link leads you to terms and conditions that don't mention the fee waiver however the ad on their page is pretty clear, i've got a screenshot of it as well just in case.

I say just in case because I only noticed at the end of the application that it's managed by "card services" which are citibank.

Weird-the card services website says
Card Services is a division of Citigroup Pty Limited ABN 88 004 325 080 AFSL 238 098 which provides and administers credit
Card Services Online
yet the Jetstar site says
Card Services is a division of Macquarie Bank Limited (ABN 46 008 583 542, ACL number 237502) which provides and administers credit

Maybe Macquarie bought card services and card services hasn't updated their website?

I didn't find anything on the appliaction form to indicate J* dollars or QFF points - I rang the call centre - very prompt and person was english speaking - advised me that when I ring to activate the card they will discuss options for the points and I can choose which program to go into.

Two different websites there:

www.cardserve.com.au is Mac Bank

http://www.cardservicesdirect.com.au/AUCRD/JPS/portal/Index.do?tabId=Home. is citibank

Similar but different.

You need to chose QFF at activation to get the bonus, which is kind of obvious.

Anyway as I am between jobs I'm unlikely to be approved for the card anyway so doesn't really matter to me who administers it.:p

Technically, it's 'spend $4,980 and get at least 14,980 points'.... which, to me, is appealing.

Though, $5k in 3 months is only $20k/year... which is:
A. Too much for me.
B. Not a lot for many platinum card holders

Having said that, if the deal is still around in June, I will have finished my probation in my new job and might have a crack at applying.

I rather like Plane Talking's (Yeah I know) take on the 30,000 point offer-
