Just remember
Domestic sizing is different from international
Luggage shops sell ones bigger than allowed
cheap case is always a cheap case

I prefer no wheels. No wheels means no problems.

Why? Why? (padding)
Several Reasons:
1. When fully loaded and wheels pointed in certain direction it tips over whereas 2 wheeler never did
2. I often travel with 2 full size bags and the smaller carry on - I could rest carry on on top of one large bag and still tow 2 along - 4 wheeler just doesn't work this way as it wants to roll off too easily
3. Lifting 4 wheeler up into OH bin and having exposed wheels hitting back of bin just does not seem right to me
4. General usage on / in / around seats on board it is just not as user friendly with 4 sets exposed dual wheels - 2 single semi exposed wheels much more user friendly

And I must add all above I noticed on maiden voyage PEK-MEL - no doubt it will be pissing me off even more by the time it gets replaced.

Above IMHO of course

I needed to replace my 2 wheel Antler, which has been a fantastic suitcase. I couldn't convince myself into purchasing a 4 wheeler, no matter how hard I tried, so the dilemma of wanting another 2 wheeler has stretched my imagination a little.

After much deliberation have opted for a travel pack, an Osprey Sojourn, superb quality and brilliant warranty. Still early days, but at this stage I love it, and although I probably won't use the facility a lot, the fact that it can be backpacked in those awkward situations, is going to be very handy.

Twice we have had to ditch a case because of fractured wheels. In both cases it was a 2 wheeler.
So we are with spinners.Sure can be hard on carpet or rough surfaces so then use them as a 2 wheeler. And by thinking about where you are leaving your bag you can avoid them running away.

Have slowly change over the house hold cases to 4 wheelers from 2. (to Samsonite from various others)

No issues and all wheels intact.

I actually really like my Kathmandu 50L Hybrid. It's not perfect, but after reading all these posts I realise how much it suits the way I travel. The two wheels are great, it never falls over or runs away, is easy to wheel on uneven ground. If I'm walking with it, a quick adjustment and it's a backpack. I wouldn't want to walk far with it on my back, but it's good for up to 2km. I am considering the 70L as a future purchase.

Over the last 12 years, we have been searching for the "perfect" suitcase. We started with 2 wheelers from Antler and Samsonite then graduated to 4 wheelers from several makers culminating in a Samsonite Cosmolite which promised to be ideal. The zip "popped" completely during its second flight probably due to something sharp intruding. Nothing was lost as we had a strap around it and we pack in cubes. We did more research and particularly observed that almost all flight crew used (mostly Samsonite) hard sided cases with 3 catches and 2 wheels (and no zips). The more recent version of these was the Samsonite Aeris and we have had 2 of these for several years. They have 4 wheels but a few minor drawbacks in design. Most recently, Samsonite have released the S'cure which is an updated design of the Aeris with 4 double wheels, rubber seal, 3 catches including one with TSA combo lock. 2 of the wheels are as large as our previous 2 wheelers so carpets and cobblestones are not a problem. 4 wheels are a must in places like Japan where you can walk long distances in train stations and down streets to hotels. The hard sided cases with rubber seal are waterproof and protect contents from damage. We regularly pack liquids (Sake/Gin/Bourbon) with never a loss. The main disadvantages are weight - a bit heavier than zipped cases - not expandable and the clam shell design which requires a bit more room to open.

In ancient days, I leaped at those strap-on, fold up jobs. Travelled vast distances over many weeks/ stops/ airlines. They were fine and the best that was on offer, however, I did forget to pick them up off the luggage belt a few times, got them back in some instances. Then along came the two wheeler, offering pre-attached wheels, hidden handles etc. I still use them, though do not know if I prefer them, as I have never tried the 4 wheeler. The two wheelers work well for me in Japan, Thailand and most of Asia, and domestically as well. I may be retiring abroad soon, too late for new fangled!!!:D

I had a couple spare hours in Shanghai last Sat so walked west on Nanjing Lu from Le Royal Meridien out to fake market at 580 Nanjing West Lu - Shanghai Fake Market - 580 Nanjing West Road.

This is the closest market to city centre - 3 floors of 'genuine quality' merchandise - I was so pissed off with the 4 wheel spinner I bought in PEK a month earlier I was just going to replace it with a 2 wheel version which I have used last 5 or 6 years. 4 wheeler here:

This is is the only design I will use - 2 pockets on front - but I could only find 1 2 wheeler this design in whole market - could not believe it - there were dozens in Ya Show (Sunlitan) market in PEK - but only 1 at 580. And the problem was it was not assembled straight - bottom pocket on front not stiched on straight - I just could not bring myself to buy it - looking at that crooked pocket would piss me off forever - so 4 wheeler gets to experience another journey back to its mother city in PEK where I'll start the search again!

And another reason this 4 wheeler has to go is extra space it takes up - SQ 77Ws have no OH bins in F - the 773s do - stowage of HL on 77W is under ottoman in front of you - wheels make 4 wheeler protrude further out - basically I cannot sit in F without feet touching 4 wheeler unless I sit bolt upright.

i have now used the 4 wheeler on 6 flts - It just does not cut the mustard!
