US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

You might be interested in having a look at [post=938428]this post (click)[/post] which I put together some time ago.

interesting.

AA sometimes gives as much as 40% discount on their miles. Plus the cheaper cost to buy them ($30 per 1000 rather than $35).

Some awards are firmly slanted towards AA.

They have a promo running right now actually.

In my recent experience, for TG bookings made via USDM the new system does not show the ticket numbers, neither does checkmytrip have them. I have 2 current bookings and both have no ticket numbers on TG MMB,

However I can take my ticket number from the US site and use it to successfully log on to TG's pre-order meal page. TG on the phone also confirm they have the tix.

Same here

I called TG up giving them the (USDM) e-ticket number and they could then give me the TG confirmation / booking code.

MEL_Traveller, is that good enough or is there a separate TG e-ticket number that we should be chasing ?

There is only one ticket number...the US one starting 037...it simply doesn't display on the TG MMB page, whereas a lifemiles booking would show the ticket number there. In your case TG clearly have the ticket number so don't worry about it.

On the TG bkg the 037 number is referred to as '"document 037 ... HKG - HKG ". Why does it not say all the sectors SYD-SYD ?

( TG in MEL said they could not give me a tkt number and to contact USDM).

If TG can't see a ticket number you need to contact USDM. When you call, say you were speaking to TG to select seats and they advised you there was no ticket number.

Ok thanks shall do, as soon as I can get win8 to allow me to talk to people on skype.

TG only needs to know what your flights are immediately prior or after their TG flights for baggage/interlining/boarding passes purposes.

So if you were flying SYD-BKK-FRA (stopped for a month) and then did FRA-CDG, TG would only see SYD-BKK-FRA. Now if you flew SYD-BKK-FRA-CDG in the one go, TG would see all of it - so then they know where to tag bags to / print boarding passes.

Seems like Thai Smile is effectively decoupling itself from TG and will have it's own code - WE. It will also remove itself from the Star Alliance network.

Thai Smile focuses on turning around unprofitable Thai Airways routes as new AOC is secured | CAPA - Centre for Aviation

I know they are probably not featured in many of your bookings but I certainly have some upcoming BKK-KBV sectors - watch any existing US or AV bookings closely for potential changes! The articles suggests this change will happen very soon.

Afterwards there will be the odd airport which will no longer have *A coverage and a lot less options to some popular Thai tourist destinations.

FYI from FT on how to book OW flights with USDM

She did tell me what I should tell other agents if I called again and they could not find the oneworld flights in the system. Agents need to search for the flights in the "regular availability system", NOT the "dividend miles availability system" and that they must search for each segment individually, including all connections. Today when I called back, once again agents initially were not able to find any oneworld partner flights in the system, but after I told them how to search as per the other agent's instructions they were able to find them.

I'd appreciate any advice (nNow that I've got some more USDM to burn asap), what advice might the experts make re say something like CBR - SYD - HNL - LAS ret.

Timing flexible, maybe in Jan when the big hols start to slack off.

I actually called TG up requesting my "TG" ticket number quoting my TG Reservation Code.

They said 'No, you need to call USDM to request a ticket number' as USDM is the issuing agent.

As far as TG is concerned, the TG Reservation Code is 'all they need'.

So, you're right. There is only one ticket number.

If this booking was made some time ago and TG can't tell you the ticket number then that is a problem!

TG also told me to get the tkt number from USDM.

Well that's very strange. If they pull up your reservation, I'd imagine the ticket number is just a tab away, if it exists. I would've said click but knowing airline res systems...

So maybe I'll rephrase...if they won't tell you, that's a bit strange, if they can't tell you...that's still a problem.

Perhaps, the system they use is showing a similar behaviour to the MMB function and shows no ticket number (for US bookings), but somewhere there is a flag at least indicating it is ticketed.
