US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

IMO this thread should probably be locked up.

This one will run on with tales of woe and angst about schedule changes and cancellations to *A bookings that can't be fixed! Or perhaps that could go in a separate thread too:

USDM *A Booking changes after 31 March 2014?

So what are the options henceforth for Australia to Asia, say SYD-BKK-SYD, using the account with USDM miles? AA? How many miles?

the OW chart has been published by USDM now. BKK is South East Aisa.

AA would be 35k each way using AA miles.

I should have been clearer...J class is still 90k miles.

70k miles is for economy class.

The chart doesn't expressly say what South Pacific region is.

I keep thinking of new things I need to learn doing...

The ANA tool is of no use in checking OW availability. Any recommendation on checking OW availability?

AA miles (from an AA account) would be 35K each way in business class. Some awards (including F class to Asia and north Asia) are in favour of AA miles now, even allowing for the 100% bonus on USDM vs the sometimes 40% bonus on AA.

Use AA to check some carriers, BA to check the others.

So a friend is having dramas now with her honeymoon flights to Italy which are due to depart in five weeks! Here is the email she sent me describing the events

Booked tickets on 28 Aug
- A wk later I called Thai airways to confirm. They said it was cancelled.
Called Us Airways and they re-booked tickets. They were unsure why it was cancelled. Called Thai and they confirmed it was booked and picked seats together.
- checked today and Thai said there is no booking and it was cancelled in Sept
- US airmiles says it was cancelled due to a scheduled change but it was never re-booked
- they said mine had a schedule change as well but it was automatically re-booked

So her flights are all in business yet her husband to be has only one leg in business the remaining three are all in coach. She has rang thai who have confirmed there is no availability even though a dummy booking shows plenty of seats and USDM are obviously in a state of flux due to the change to oneworld. Hoping they can help when she calls back tomorrow!

Guess it shows that you should keep a regular eye on your bookings especially when TG are involved

robcuk, a bad situation that's for sure. Here is what I think is the best way to attack this but best to act as soon as possible.

What were the original dates and routing? If you let us know here I am sure people will be happy to have a look and see if we can get something to work on OW carriers. To Europe there are a few options (CX, MH, QF, QR) with especially CX opening up closer to departure and MH having reasonable availabillity. I wouldn't take the agents word as gospel saying there is nothing available on OneWorld. US's systems might take a couple more days to get all airlines online but I reckon within a week they *should* be able to see availability where available.

If we can find an itinerary that works availability wise I would then get that put on hold with US Airways. Then cancel the original itinerary (should be able to get the $150 waived in this situation) and then lock in the new itinerary.

My BKG for TG 476 on 19 Sept on the USDM site shows a flt change.

But on the Thai schedule site it says that TG476 it still departing at 1000 arriving BKK at 1620:

What time does USDM say it has been changed to?

I strangely got my first USDM flight change emails the other day and nothing had actually changed with any of them. If you have noticed on the Manage My Booking page they must have done some IT updates and now the 'skin' is different so don't know if that has anything to do with it?

It does not actually show a change, just the original flt date and time (although I don't like that shows my cabin class not as F but an 'unknown'):

I reckon nothing has changed as per my experience above. Was this in an email you received notification? All USDM bookings show class 'unknown' as long as it has the letter 'O' next to it for a first class booking you are fine.

notification from USDM about a flight change begins with words to the effect of 'your itinerary with flight xyz' has changed.

it usually lists the first flight you are taking (as a reference), but the change could be to any of the flights in the itinerary.

my last one was a a scheduled arrival 10 minutes earlier than stated.

I would check each flight in the itinerary.

USDM did not actually contact me, I checked the bkg to look for a ticket number or something as TG can't provide a tkt number. Then I noticed the warning of a changed flt. And, still no ticket numbers.

There is a red button on the bkg to accept the changes ... should I risk pressing it to see?

the changes will already be in the itinerary. Clicking won't achieve much :)

USDM agents have advised me previously that it is best to call them to accept changes on an international itinerary.

Hmm no ticket number in the booking? I would be calling them. It should be shown down the bottom next to your name.

Thank, I'll call them asap I'm able. Seeing as there aren't any changes visible, I'll try to relax about it.

Looking at it all very closely there are 2 x 5 min changes on other flights. Perhaps it has nothing to do w' TG476.
