US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

I just checked and it is 4.5 hours. Arrive 8:00pm, depart 12:30am. Should be fine and well over MCT of 3.5 hours.

Tricky timing! Make sure you check the timetables of your transport options.

Can you check in/collect boarding pass at the SQ NRT desk for your SQ HND flight?

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

As others have said - they removed it completely. OU have intra-EU J and TK have a proper J like VA on European flights.

No, not always (LGW-IST, 4/4/2013)

No idea. I guess you could try.

I've never heard too many people getting their onward BPs (even at HLO) from co-terminals.

...

Might want to fix that ;)

Wow, I think google translator needs to have an AFF forum version! What number is everyone using to make bookings?

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

They are in fact both as US does not have one-way awards, i.e. these are for return. You can do a one-way but you'll be charged the same as a return.

Wow, that's awesome!

Just looking on the website and can't find anything about routing rules or stopovers (my guess is there would be a limit)?
Also would fare availability depend on availability in the classic award bucket (ie the USDM equivalent of QF's P,U,X inventory)?

All the rules can be found on the relevant Flyertalk thread header post. Have a squizz at that:

In addition, the US Airways Dividend Miles Membership Guide is also useful:

In short:
  • Availability depends on relevant award buckets of each carrier. Across *A, it is generally X for Economy, I for Business and O for First, but there are a couple of exceptions.
  • Only one en route stopover (> 24 hours) OR one open jaw allowed per itinerary.
  • Routing rules are quite flexible, but generally must be within 25% of MPM for itinerary, and some obviously silly backtracking may be discouraged.

Well done.

I see you joined not too long ago, so its very good to see you get some nice benefits from knowledge found on this site thus far.

Thanks, it's been a great help.

Dumb question - with an award reservation like this what do I actually need to show at check-in to get my boarding pass? Do I need to get something from the airlines I'm flying with before I go?

You would be best to print the USDM reservation with the associated ticket number. Another good idea is to get each individual airlines PNR (may have to call USDM or the specific airline to get this) and confirm with them your reservation is ticketed. You can use this PNR often to do online seat/meal selection for that carrier.

As for at the airport I have never had to produce anything other than my passport as should be the case with an e-ticket, but occasionaly they may want to see proof of onward travel for visa reasons and might want to see an itinerary as often with multiple carriers they won't be able to see your whole trip.

I was able to select my seats for my United flights but can't figure out how to for Air China and ANA. I guess I'll call them, I have a number for Air China but on the USDM call the agent said ANA didn't send through a number but I could use my flight number?

Thanks!

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

That LON APD sure is a killer for long haul - premium cabins!!

Unlucky for her not to get any A380 but she just wanted to get to ZRH and out of LON back as fast as she could. However good new for me, I get to fly a TG 380 in about five weeks time and I am really looking forward to it. I have flown F on the 380s on QF and KE, so now I get to give TG a go. Can't wait!!

I would've loved to get my folks on the TG A380, but they wanted to end up in LON, and availability to FRA was missing in action.

They'll enjoy the 747 F instead. It does look a bit more cosy and less "plastic" than the TG A380, but it does miss some of the bling, plus (upon confirmation from TG themselves), they get Tumi amenity kits rather than Rimowa ones.

There have been a few mentions of the Rimowa kits spreading occasionally, but guaranteed on the A380. At least flying into LON they may get the new F still.

the only advantage of the a380 is the cabin humidity... I don't wake up with a dry nose/throat like I do on conventional jets.

otherwise... as with many airlines, the a380 does not first class maketh! there is nothing special about TGs fit out... I think only SQ has taken the opportunity to do something unique. by putting first class upstairs the cabin width is more or less the same as the a340, so seats are not wide, and still suffer from a lack of privacy (although not quiet as bad).

the a380 is quiet... but that's offset by hearing every snore, every clink of cutlery, and every camera snap.

it is certainly not worth going out of the way for a transit via FRA or CDG.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

So with the bonus, I decided to bite the bullet and join in on all the fun. Off Stateside for NYE.

PER - SIN (SQ)
SIN - TPE (SQ)
TPE - SFO (BR) Destination
SFO - ICN (UA) Stopover
ICN - SIN (SQ) Transit stopover - overnight for 19 hours
SIN - PER (SQ)

110,000 points and $179.50 USD in taxes and fees. All in J.

Nice work!

What's BR long-haul J like? I imagine it would be similar to the TG 777 J?
