US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Ah ok, thanks for the mail, I have another account with 75K miles that i can easily transfer into so getting the 300 wont be an issue
Is the best miles program united to check other availability?

No United isn't part of oneworld. You need to use QF, JAL, BA or AA or similar to search for oneworld availability. I reckon your best to look at business on Qatar or CX.

I had wondered if I could have gotten 1 way for example OneWorld and return with Thai/Sing etc

Not with USDM. You could buy one way (but for the same cost as return). You would then need a different programs miles for the Thai/Sing flights.

Not with Dividend Miles no - the return would need to be all OneWorld or all other partners. Thai is not on the 'other partners' list...and SQ is only for another month.

Also it costs money to share miles, not the best value if you have already had to buy them in the first place. Probably best to do it when a deal is on.

Thanks everyone for the replies, they have been very helpful. I have built up my points bank on the 100% offers that USDM have ran throughout the year and its where i have gotten the large pile of miles. I dont really mind having to share more of them, i know its better value than paying for 2 J return tickets to use these miles so i am happy with that

US Airways does not do one ways. Or, rather, they do but charge you for the return one.

For former Star Alliance partners (not many left, actually) availability you can use United or ANA.

Have you thought of Air China? They are still a partner. Normally quite a few seats available and they've got F to Frankfurt and London, from memory, (but only J from China to Australia though)

I think the 77W has appeared on PEK<>SYD for a few months around Xmas each of the last 2 years.

hadnt thought of Air China at all. I might ring the US Airways number and see what CX has available for the return leg

You can see this yourself on JAL Mileage Bank. It's the most correct way, will also save you time talking to agents most of whom have no idea

...and before you go looking for it remember CX does not operate an F cabin between HKG and Australia. The J seat is superb anyway!

Can't combine *A and 1W carriers on the same itinerary unfortunately.

I think he was suggesting that he'd looked for a OW return leg on AA.com and found nothing, but as it doesn't show CX he was going to call up and see if that was available to pair up with the OW flights he'd already found on the outbound.

yeah i know there is no F between HKG - Australia but the J product is still awesome and would not mind using F points on that leg for the J product.

Hi, newbie here, can anyone give me a rough idea of fee/surcharges for a J class ticket from Australia to Europe and Australia to Asia award booking??

A couple of hundred US dollars, including the award booking fee. You only pay actual government and airport taxes. There are no fuel surcharges.

That will go up substantially if you depart on the way home from the UK, where a luxury tax applies.

Thank you. Around $200 for Europe, Asia same or less??
