US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Update: to post 2480

Ok another 45 mins shot, but all OK no probs, have booking will travel. Kept all my F flights with no change fee and extra USD18 tax.

Can relax now as long as the email comes through, and QF shows it all. I have never been able to see this particular booking on USDM site, and they have no explanation of how to fix that.

Took about 30 mins to all catch up but seems to be fine now.

It is on QF site and USDM confirm it is F LAX-SYD, but the QF site w' the terrible enhancements does not show F. WT....
Oh good! Seems like you have been having a terrible run of bad luck with this booking
hopefully this is the end of your troubles

Good job.
Did they refer to it as a "change", or a "cancel, redeposit miles and book a new ticket"? or other?

I was very careful to refer to it as a change. Even though the operator opened the initial conversation with the statement, "you can't add to this booking". Which was exactly what I wanted to do, and did in fact achieve eventually. All this was about right on the 330 days line.

In retrospect, I was glad I held my nerve and did not go w' a cancel, redeposit etc. The operator said there was a 50-50 chance I would get my F booking back on QF SYD - LAX if I cancelled and rebooked. I didn't believe that and my gut feel was 99% sure I'd lose it.

In my experience it would show automatically on the USair site if your DM number was in the booking and on the Qantas.com site if your QFF number is there. I presume it's your QFF number in the booking.

Since you have your US booking reference (different from Qantas Amadeus), you can get to your booking here:

US Airways | Airline tickets, vacations & business flights

I can see that I have that bkg on the US Airways site, but it has never opened the itinerary, it has a little arrow and a sort of no progress message that comes up. They have no explanation for that except to say if you can see it on QF that's all that's important, and I can so I'm not concerned (?). I still need to check my AA flights now that I think of it.

Have you confirmed with all operating airlines that they have a ticket number against your bookings?

Thanks for reminding me. I still can't open that bkg on the US website, but skyped them yet again and they assure me it's all there.

I called AA as you can't see anything on their site except what has been bkd directly w' them so I Skyped AA and they said yes it has tkt numbers. QF has tkt numbers too.

BTW, this is what the US Airways bkg looks like - spaghetti w' the dates of the last 2 flights only showing - it looks like this:

Hi all,

TG changed their PER-BKK schedule and it is no longer flying on the Thursday I'm supposed to leave for Xmas trip I booked ages ago.

should I contact TG and try to get the flight the day prior or contact USDM?

My issue is it is a GUM award and too complex/short notice to get all the flights swapped over to OW

Has TG already given you a new flight? If they move you to a day you don't want, ask them to change it. Then you'll need to get USDM to revalidate your new flights.

yes they've put me leaving on the 19th and my 'connecting' flight leaves on the 18th..

all i need is for TG to move me to the 17th, should be a quick easy fix?

in theory :)

call TG, don't take 'no' for an answer. Point out their new flight has you arriving after your connection. Tell them, if necessary, that USDM is 'waiting for Thai to put the passenger on the right flight' (ie the 17th).

thanks,

this is pretty much what i was going to try tomorrow anyway.

My parents trip over is the opposite. They were supposed to depart at 01:00 (or thereabouts) and now are departing just after midday, which means they now have to spend the night instead of transit. Do I need to call TG to request they book accommodation for them?

A question or 2 as not booked any USDM award flights before...

I'm considering booking a flight to Myanmar with a stopover in KL. MH flies this route and I assume it's possible as they're part of OW. Am I right in the understanding that I'm permitted a stopover (in 1 direction or both) with the award flight? Also, should I wish to cancel my flight, what happens to my miles and cancellation costs??

The booking fee is US$50 per passenger per booking. (I believe this is correct - haven't done this for a while).

If you book your travel within 21 days of when you are going to depart, you will pay an additional "expedited ticketing" fee of US$75 per passenger per booking.

All other fees and charges depend on where you are travelling, as levied by the respective airports and governments through which you are travelling. Don't forget that departing Australia carries the ~A$50 per passenger, so that usually accounts for the most in a booking. Most other countries and airports levy their own taxes and airport improvement levies of around US$5 - US$20 each.

So expect to pay a total of around US$200 or so, including the booking fees (but excluding expedited ticketing, as most will book well out of 21 days before departure).

Departing from the UK can be substantially more due to the UK Air Passenger Duty charge, plus the not so trivial UK airports passenger service charge. Germany and Switzerland may have other environmental / air travel levies which noticeably increase the charges as well.

If you travel with British Airways or Iberia (and possibly Finnair), you will also be liable to pay their carrier-imposed fuel surcharges, which will increase your payment between US$50 - US$400.

You can have one stopover per itinerary.

If you cancel the taxes paid will be refunded. You then must pay $150 fee to have the miles you used redeposited into your account. Obviously you will lose any booking fees etc you have paid to US.
