US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Lol so who is right ?

Actually now that I read both your responses again, they are not contraindicating.
Thanks :mrgreen::cool:

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Guys how flexible are miles redemptions on partner airlines ?
Are you able to make date changes (and at what $ cost) ?
How about cancellations (before commencement of journey) ? Would you get a full refund of any taxes/fees/charges paid as well as miles ?

Thanks
Excuse the OT

you should take a moment to read the USDM membership guide. it answers all these questions. unlike the QFFF terms and conditions the USDM ones are a very short read... only about 5 minutes :)

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Have a great African trip for 4 in C booked and done for Jan but includes Egypt. Wife now doesnt want to go due to issues there. Will US look at the fact that Australia advises no travel or is it just bad luck and pay to change?

I think USDM will act on a US state department advisory banning travel. but even then, it might only have a limited application (if your trip is in 6 months you may not have much luck).

an Aussie advisory... you can try... but it didn't work for the last lot of riots and then floods in bangkok.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Well done on getting a stopover included. I'm looking at booking a GUM trip myself, was looking at long overnight transits, but might give a stopover a try and hope (but not expect) based on this.

BTW, what approach did you take with the agent: give them a list the flights upfront or wait until they ask you if you had any specific flights in mind?

You are entitles to a either stopover/open jaw, sometime if you are lucky, you can get both. Every time I book with USDM, I have all my segments ready to go (search through ANA & ExpertFlyer). I find the agents like this better, I suppose it makes their job easier.

you are not entitled to a stopover or open jaw for an intra zone award.

for this very reason some agents refuse point blank to accept routings as read to them by passengers, because they just dont know the rules, or try to bend the rules.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Does anyone know what the go is with QR ?
According to the redemption table award redemptions with QR are "temporarily" unavailable, but unsure how current that is ?

I'm trying to get a redemption DOH (or DXB/AUH) to MEL return with a stopover in Asia (SIN/KUL).
Or perhaps best to go with AA redemption on EY ?

Thoughts ?

Thanks

if we go to the beginning of time, i guess you could classify QR redemption as being 'temporarily' unavailable.

if we look at the last three years, it has been totally unavailable.

My take on the intra zone award rule is that you are not allowed a stopover only if the travel is solely (e.g MEL to AKL) within one zone, since there is no way getting to GUM without going through Asia from MEL, this rule does not apply. Either way, it works every time.....

(This is not a dig) but is it possible to do MEL-AKL-CNS-GUM?
Of course, I would not mind a stopover in BKK, SIN, ICN, PEK, PVG, TPE or somewhere in Japan :D

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

I've received the targeted 100% but I am in two minds whether to buy. I already have a lot of USDM such that if I buy more there seems to be little or no prospect of being able to use them for *A awards prior to the merger. I assume that unused USDM will at some stage be converted into AA points. I don't know anything about that program. Is it worthwhile buying USDM on 100% special just to get AA points which I will then have to use for OW flights?

I think it is...although the program merger could be an excuse for a devaluation of course.

You got me excited mate.
I thought when there was a post on this thread that there was a general 100% offer.
I already whipped out the credit card.... lol

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

This is a joke and I regret the day I discovered this rubbish scheme on AFF.

Apparently my mums TG flight FCO-BKK today has been cancelled and she has been put on tomorrows TG flight FCO-BKK. The same moron that processed the cancellation has left tomorrow mornings TG flight BKK-SYD the same.

She checked in at SKG this morning on Aegean flights SKG-ATH-FCO to connect to TG flights FCO-BKK-SYD and I have no idea where she is right now and she is more than likely under extreme stress and suffering.

This is all the one US Airways redemption. I have not received any notification of any changes/cancellations from US Airways. Standard practice? Morons.

Well you need to take this up with Thai, it's totally in their control now! It's beyond USDM's control. The 'moron' you refer to would be Thai, they need to rebook your Mum

Too late now. She left SKG this morning and I no idea what is happening as Thai had no idea either when I was in BKK earlier today.

Agreed.

When did TG "cancel" the flight? If they only cancelled it today or so, then there is no way USDM could have been informed (TG or any carrier will not do it), let alone in sufficient time for you to do much better than the situation dictates anyway.

TG are operating the flight, it's TG that needs to fix it. As Rome is within the EU, it is also covered by EU 261, and a standard notice provides for compensation (depending on when the cancellation took place), accommodation (if necessary) and rerouting (including all relevant legs affected by the cancellation).

I think I've heard before that TG are notorious for pulling stunts like this, so it pays to be vigilant nearer to departure with respect to TG.

Who knows - maybe this will sort itself out. Once your mum arrives in BKK, TG may automatically reaccommodate her to the next flight after presenting her itinerary to a service or transit desk (it may also have been done in FCO once they realise that the connection is impossible). If they don't then you have good cause to be vitriolic and livid at TG.

USDM definitely send out emails when flights change. I've received a few myself for my own and parents' itineraries. But when flights come under airport control (closer to departure), USDM obviously won't be informed of any changes to send you a change email.

I have no idea when the flight was cancelled. Nor do I care.

I hope the same thing does not happen to your 70 year old mother who you only spoke to the night before and she was looking forward to coming home....
