US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Ok thnaks, that'd be very nice, should I search SYD - HKG or break it down until I find the dates?

HKG-GUM direct is near impossible you will need to consider

HKG-TPE-GUM with BR - BR flies from TPE-GUM direct twice weekly
or via Japan NGO or KIX, Tokyo is particularly hard/impossible to get a flight direct to GUM as well

be aware that lots of the seats and availability we can see the US agents are not seeing, NH in particular... an agent informed me yesterday that some airlines are no longer releasing seats to USDM as they are leaving Star Alliance

This is an old tale and I personally don't believe a word of it! They have always used this excuse (perhaps not merger related) whenever what they see doesn't match with what the customer says they can see elsewhere. More than likely they - US - are blocking particular carriers / flights / dates either accidentally (poor technology) or by design.

I'd probably just break down the dates to be honest.

thanks am going to do that.

I don't suppose there's an "idiots guide to booking GUM via USDM" floating around? I'm getting horribly confused after the last 50 or so pages :( Would like to try for one of these before points transfer to AA ....

From what I see, you go from Australia - somewhere in asia (stopover for x period of time) - GUM (destination) - somewhere else in Asia - australia?

FYI - BR TPE to GUM is on Tues and Sat.

TPE GUM TPE ------ Ok, so it's either get straight back on the plane or stay over 4 nights. Anyone got straight back on the plane - does USDM approve that?

Apologies it's 3 nights. That sounds OK .

doesn't matter to USDM. you can do an immediate turn at your destination and spend three months at your stopover if you wanted.

Although of course stopovers are not allowed to GUM. So an agent may pick it up if they were on the ball.

I'd be more concerned clearing immigration/security when trying to do the turn around.

That's a hard decision, to be or not to be.

Yipee , I have just been able to make a booking after many days and hours of reading threads and looking up flts on different booking engines and getting despondent.

All is F or J where 2 class only ... except the last flight which is 01 Oct BKK-SYD is only available in J. I have the flights held for 3 days (midnight on 11 Feb?).

How can I find out if I can get that TG 475 on 01 Oct in F seat as I do not have any of those alert things that people mention, and even when I look at what people post I don't understand it. Any advice plse?

I'll post on the 'successfuls' thread soonish for others on here who may be just starting out. I did the GUM variation and started w' the TPE-GUM flights mentioned a few posts back and built around that.

Hopefully, it will all hold after the amalgamation. I tried to use the 24 hour clock to tell her the times, but she asked me to speak in English.

the 72 hour hold can vary and can mean 'midnight on the third day'. So can be a lot less than 72 hours. Some airlines you want to ticket much much quicker (within 24 hours.)

Is there somewhere I see what I have on hold? Ok found it thanks to ozbeachbabe.

Looking at making my first (and probably final) USDM redemption to Europe. Appreciate people's advice on preferred hard product (as I'm typically a *O guy) to Europe.

Air China + Lufthansa
Thai + Swiss
Asiana + Turkish

I think they're all the old, angled product in J.
