US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

I had the Lobster on HKG-BKK and it was just fine :)

I once ordered the lobster and it was served to the person across the aisle (who's daughter had ordered the fried rice option for her)

I have had it a couple of times since. It might not be the best lobster thermidor but lobster on a plane, is still lobster on a plane ;) :D

Its even better for breakfast, no cafe style :)

Just read elsewhere that UA will start non stop MEL-LAX service using 787-9 in late October...presumably availability will be awful!

No, I'm asking what are the best seats for 2 pax traveling together?

Its really subjective. Some like 1A/K combination, others prefer the couple seats (think E/F) in the middle.

For night flights, I like 1A/K. For day flights, its E/F.

For a couple, yes the couple seats. They are called that for a reason I'd suggest!

perhaps just a case of convenience (getting seats in the cabin) ... many majors don't have pairs of seats in Fcl these days - there's probably little demand. which makes sense when you think about it.. aside from the hour when you're eating meals (and can share a buddy seat anyway), what pressing need is there to be sitting next to someone?

Even as a couple I could dislike and middle seats - no window views, and more importantly, no control over the window shades.

+1

The loss of window shade control is relatively more important to me than the view loss.

For that reason, we preselected 2/3 F on our upcoming SQ F suite.

Many centre pair e.g. CX (J) has a design that seems to provide more privacy than a couple may wish for.

Both SQ and QF F has a small couch that would allow for sharing of meals.

Leisurely take, a degustation meal may allow you to 'connect' with your loved one for 2+ hrs or so [provided of course they also have an F ticket].

However, subject to availability, I may politely ask for the centre pair for sleeping.

Don't ask me why but the photo is quite nice.

for SQ suites I would be pre-booking the centre two seats if travelling with a partner. there is still a wooden bar between the seats (which you can see in your last picture) but snuggling up is just about comfortable!

For a single pax row 3 window seats are best.

The odds is that the centre pair would remain empty on most flights.

I'm taking that odds over the loss of window control but I'd agree YMYV here.

Having never flown solo on the 747 in TG F is 1A the seat to go for?

1A or K... makes no difference. but if you choose 1A and you get on board to find 1K is occupied, and if the cabin is not heavily loaded, you may wish to move around to get a better seat (farther away from another passenger usually the better)
