US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Is USDM a cost effect way to travel within North America? If not, is there a points program that is?

Do you mean to buy points and redeem on domestic flights? The only real issue is that one-ways cost the same as returns so you are limited in your routing options. Obviously look at rev flights as they may be cheaper but if you are wanting to go a long and complicated way it may be cheaper to buy miles and redeem. I have used this trick a few times with AV Lifemiles in Europe (LX TXL-ZHR-BEG and TK IST-SPL-DBV) where Y rev tickets were $400+ - by buying miles during a sale and redeeming it came down to about $250 with taxes. I have *A SG so there's not much point paying extra miles to fly J.

I'd look at Avios for US flights as well (and for Aus domestics and Aus-NZ flights).

+1 on this, I was going to jump and say Avios but bcworld beat me to it. Also very good in Australia, e.g. SYD - MEL is 4500 points and given its distance based similar costs in US for short(ish) hops.

I'm just irked I didn't stock up at $1.45 to the GBP when they were offering me a nice bonus!

Still there's a current offer and I'll probably go for it I think.

The reward flight saver is such great value.

This.

Once I renew my BA Silver (OWS) each year, my wife and I hammer the RFS.

Yes, as I indicated TG has changed the schedule of 472 for the summer table table, late Mar - late Oct. It now has a horrible 3AM arrival time into BKK where it connects to nothing to Europe and when most of the lounges are in the middle of their night closure. Currently the winter schedule shows it returning to 5PM departure but watch this space!

This has impacted my parents F trip to EU in May. Someone (THai/UA?) has put them on the TG476 10AM flight but on the same day as their TG930 so they mis connect by 16 hours. Genius :)

Hopefully they can put them on the TG476 10AM flight on the day before...

I'm interested to see what happens when I do TG F SYD - BKK arrive 0300 and connect to BKK - ICN J at 0700. Lounge only opens at 0600 I thought. No buggy ride I'd say!

My partner got an email last night to congratulate her on becoming a USDM Silver Preferred member. She has not flown on US or AA in the last 12 months, but does have a healthy USDM balance all from purchases.

I got it too....

i suspect they will implement the same measures as they did last time with an 0400 arrival. they will open a joint lounge facility to handle transit pax from that flight. last time they opened a business class facility.

the first class lounge opens at 5. the spa at 6.

Interesting, didn't get it here.... what does silver preferred actually get you?

Hoping so. May just be able to squeeze in a quick foot massage in between.

While the new timings aren't great for EU...it means I can fly to SYD thurs afternoon and catch the SYD BKK with plenty of time!

I got one saying I am now platinum preferred. Never set foot on us metal.......

I'll trade you silver for platinum? :)

What is your balance at? Mine's around 200k...

It sounds like the old Velocity mistake status upgrade email.

My balance is 301k...no email for me, or indication of changed status online.

I got it, too, and my partner got his - he's gold now (his balance is higher than mine)

Silver - haven't flown - point balance 380K
