US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Hi all,

Can you have a stopover in Paris or only an open jaw because it's not a *A hub?

Ultimately I want to end up in IAH via a few days/ week in CDG and surrounds. I think this means either:

A) I'd have to fly to FRA for a stopover and then have a separate rev fare FRA-CDG return
B) fly into CDG on an open jaw, and fly out of somewhere else, taking a rev. Fare to that departure point

is that understanding correct?

Just ring up and try. There's no knowing what the Agents will and won't allow.

If the first one doesn't, HUACA.

CDG is a US airways destination, so stopovers are almost always allowed without there being any reference it it havin to be a star hub etc. this also includes London where stopovers are routinely granted.

great thanks.

i'm thinking following itinerary
SYD-BKK-CDG (stopover)
CDG-FRA-ATL-IAH destination
IAH-PHX-SFO-ICN-SYD
5 segments to destination, 4 segments return?

judging by successful bookings thread posts 512, 533, 651 and 1283 it doesn't appear to be an issue going SYD-asia-europe-N Am-asia-SYD at a return price rather than RTW price?

sorry for all the questions - haven't booked a USDM trip previously.

There's North America and there's the east coast US. Be aware that the MPM to IAH isn't nearly as generous as it is to say JFK.

25M for SYD-IAH is 13316 miles...your outbound routing would be way over this...you may or may not get called out on that.

mmm so maybe NYC as destination, and do a revenue return from there to my ultimate destination in texas? could i still go home from NYC via west coast USA & Asia? (direct connections all the way)

ps your inbox is full i think!

if JKF is the stop in USA you can fly JKF-ICN non-stop on OZ is there's availability.

Friends

What would you prefer ?

1) TG F (747) BKK CDG

2) TG J (388) BKK ZRH

as part of a long trip to Africa via IST

F always wins ??

I thought so but I would defer to more experienced colleagues here.

Thanks

TG is flying a 388 to Zurich? when?

if you mean the 346, business looks not so good.

Oooops...

1) TG J (A380) CDG

2) TG F (A340) ZRH

So sorry

Another Q if I may: if you book a mixed class itinerary (say F F J J followed by J J F F), would you be charged the F rate all the way ?

How would they manage that ?

Thanks

mixed class is charged at the highest rate. not sure what you mean by 'how would they manage that' - they charge you the F rate and not the J rate.

TG F on the A340 beats TG J on the 380. No question about it.

If we go out of STD or GWK we can get it for a 1/4 of that again. It's mainly getting to LHR is my issue!

You'd be better having DUB as your starting point for your trip home anyway (as opposed to LON) - as that'll save you on the APD ripoff tax.

anyone had any luck getting through lately? i tried 1800 428 4322, "award travel", "agent", "international" - says its too busy. tried between 3-430pm yesterday afternoon and again just now.

is this an 'optimum' time to call?

Not again. Just when I want to book my trip soon...

Someone said that 10am was a good time to call and I got through quickly then on one of my many calls. Also, when they are up and operating when there are no storms, I find that saying very little apart from 'agent' got me through quickly.

Plenty of luck @ 11pm AEST

managed to get through almost straight after, but initially got a re-direction from the first person, and then got through to a domestic award travel person, so after 40 mins on hold waiting for the 3rd person couldn't wait any longer so will try again tonight.

thanks for the info

I had trouble over Friday-Saturday getting through with wait times of 30+ minutes on 4 different calls. Called at 10pm Saturday night and was on hold for 15 minutes before speaking to an agent.

Could think of better things to do on a Saturday night to be honest...

Just to confirm...

We have a saying in this game, "If you stumble on a good deal, ticket it immediately!"

However, with USDM, we know you can hold reservations without payment for 72 hours.

Am I correct in presuming that calling back after a hold is no guarantee that you would be able to ticket the held routing?
