Guys,

What's the go with using USDM for Star Alliance Upgrades? I've done upgrades on SQ KF before but not sure how the process works with US.

I possibly have A MEL-SIN flight, can this be booked through US then upgraded using DM?

Only very expensive fare classes are upgradable - Y & B in economy.

Wish they would open up the 100% Promo, want to book my Honeymoon, but I am not eligible for the promotion.

What I have noted with these targeted offers is that they are a bit of a vicious circle, IIRC the qualification for the 100% offer earlier this year was that you had bought points in the past year while this one is that you have redeemed points in the last year. So once you get on the buying/redeeming treadmill you are more likely to get offers in the future.

My wife and I bought points in the last promo but I noticed that the regular email we get showing our balance does not reflect the 100k increase :-( I checked on the website which shows the correct balance :-) Does this happen to anyone else? Is it worth pointing this out to US Airways?

Thanks

Do you think it's a good/bad idea to use the Avianca LM search tool to look for USDM flights? I know there are probably many other flights available through USDM than LM will never show because it often only shows 1 flight per day but I find the ANA tool so difficult and un-user friendly. Surely if it's available on LM it will be available on USDM?

I've got my dates and destinations for a trip next year ready to go and I'm ready to buy and book whichever programs has the next 100% promo (either USDM or LM). I've found the flights I want in LM, if the USDM offer comes along first I would like to ring up USDM and request those exact flights.

If you don't like ANA then why not use Aeroplan (or UA) which will offer much more creative routings & more options than LM search engine. Or if you're serious purchase the KVS tool for a couple of months to take the pain out of ANA!

I have found that the email balances seem to be somewhat old, i.e. the monthly ones don't come out until about 10 days in so balances are frequently out of date.

Ditto with Hilton HHonors, often up to a month lag!

points.com is not good at showing current balances. Points.com is a separate company from US. As long as US shows your correct balance you're fine.

true - I just assumed it was points.com since they are always the one that have balances way out whack :)

I thought the monthly ones form US were always accurate?

The emails are often sent a couple of weeks after the period they relate to ended - but other than that they should be accurate.

Just got back from my trip to Europe. Don't really have the time to write a full trip report, but here's a few details and some photos.

Trip:

MEL - BKK - LHR in J on TG: Lots of space, excellent service and food, angled lie flat seats, but still pretty comfortable and got a fair amount of sleep. Didn't really take any photos on the outbound leg, saved them for the return...

LHR - FRA in J on LH: Well, LH Business Class in Europe is a complete joke, it seems to be Economy, but with a spare seat next to you. It's a good job this flight was only an hour!
Frankfurt: Senator Lounge was very nice. Pretty much empty when I arrived, but was getting busy by the time I left.
FRA - BKK in F on TG: Much more like it. Had the 777 leased from Jet Airways and it really was an excellent experience. Lots of photos here.
Bangkok: The TG First lounge was excellent, had a couple of massages, a nice shower and excellent food. Very nice place to spend a few hours between flights.
BKK - SYD in F on TG: The old config 747 isn't as private as the 777, but I found the bed actually slightly more comfortable. Food and service were excellent, although there was no Dom Perignon available!

Photos are here

No Dom! Very surprising ex BKK...what was the excuse?

Well done jcb12.
Yes, TG F on the 777 is very nice + very private. I found that service can be hit + miss on TG F, but overall, it was a very nice experience.

I also agree with your statement on short haul LH J. It's Y with some extra service, nothing to write home about.

That's pretty much the same for all intra-Euro J. AF has been the worst I've had so far, although my sample size is currently only SN, BA and AF for intra-Euro J.

<ribbing> No one has been listening to me on this thread or in my previous TR - this is Euro J! :p :p They are pretty much all like that - all Y cabin with middle block (or, on smaller aircraft with 2-2, it's single seat each side with blocked neighbour). I've tried BA, BD (pre-swallowed-up-by-BA), SN, LH and LX Euro J all with the same kind of seating. Hope you at least got a decent tasting plate to make it somewhat OK (on a cash ticket, you'd be spitting some chips, that's for sure).

Bangkok: The TG First lounge was excellent, had a couple of massages, a nice shower and excellent food. Very nice place to spend a few hours between flights.

What kind of food did you have? There wasn't anything much that knocked my socks off on the menu when I was there. There are the traditional Thai dishes but they still didn't seem to jump out at me.

And you had two massages? You must have a strong body - they don't hold back on the strength there!

BKK - SYD in F on TG: The old config 747 isn't as private as the 777, but I found the bed actually slightly more comfortable. Food and service were excellent, although there was no Dom Perignon available!

So what bubbles did they have available? I'm guessing Moet & Chandon if anything. (Or was Dom Perignon on the list but no loading?)

Lucky for me I'm not a fan of Dom Perignon, so I wouldn't miss it, though I know some do like it around here. Overall I'm not overly impressed by TG's cellar line up - it just seems like wine for wine's sake.
