That's what I was thinking. Rather than UA F, do NZ J. Then you could even contemplate SQ J from EWR or LAX.

Yeah - I know - I've just selected two of the most rarely offered award seats possible in *A...... :o :o

UA J is a good hard product - full flat. UA F is a good hard product too, just service and catering can be different to what some people might expect. I quite like USA service and have never had a bad flight in First class on a USA major. But I'm easily pleased :) (their champagne is not the best for example, but they offer Amaretto which I like, so I'm happy. And they'll mix you an great bloody mary... so if you can change your requirements then it's not too bad)

SQ J our of LAX or EWR would be on an A380 or 77W so J redemtptions would not be possible. But you could look at NH C or F, or OZ C or F.

I would possibly take NZ J over new UA J, but I'm not a great fan of the Virgin Atlantic/Air NZ business seats... NZ would win on service and food, but at the cost of a transit via AKL? probably not.

I would take UA F over NZ J without thinking. If nothing else than you still get completely personalised service in UA F (what you want when you want)

SQ operate an all J 345 out of both LAX and EWR non-stop to SIN. It is still in the "very difficult" basket. It is not completely impossible as there is precedent that SQ's premium availability is being loosened up a bit, but that said it is still very, very, very difficult to get any seats. (ANA will definitely not show them, and US DM may have trouble booking them even if some sources says there are seats available).

I'm not a fan of herringbone either, but for some reason NZ J's seems to be the most comfortable of the lot (not considering that VS have made over their J seats since I last flew them in 2009, and I haven't flown AC J before). I wouldn't mind the transit in AKL myself, as it's no different for me having to get a connector down to SYD to pickup UA.

sorry - in my haste to list the aircraft types I omitted the A345 :) That too is not permitted for SQ J redemption. Premium cabin availability released recently was a mistake (now closed). Aside from that I am unaware of any other 380/77W/345 F or J award bookings (unless the aircraft changed since making your booking from a regional to one of the above)

Agreed. I don't think there is any intentional loosening of this inventory by SQ...only one off mistakes, or monumental cough ups as seen a few weekends ago.

And if you are lucky you might even get a flight that leaves on time.

Just booked a flight to Icn from Syd using miles. How do I check the itinerary using the OZ booking reference? "Check my trip" and "Sabre virtually there" don't seem to work. thanks

?anyone. Thanks :)

I can't remember if you can do this on line. They have a 'seat selection' facility where you can log in as a guest using a ticket number, it's prefilled with OZ ticket stock (988) but you are able to delete that - not sure if it will work with US stock.

I have a feeling I might have called them to get seat assignments.

You don't even need the confirmation number. Just go to Asiana's website and put in your name and flight details, and the booking/ seat selection will come up.

I couldn't find that! I could find a section where you just enter your name and flight like you say, but it requires your OZ membership number. Is there another section (or does it still work without membership?)

Interesting observations:
  • The F "suites" do not appear to have doors. So it's just a wall around a seat. Kinda like QF, except little walking room inside the suite. Could be wrong about the door....
  • The F seat in bed position appears to have the same thing like the present F seats - there's a little slope in the seat near the head. It appears a lot more subtle on the refitted aircraft.
  • The J seats are the "present" angled flat seats, cf. the supposed new fully flat seats on the A380 (could be wrong about that, too). Not that I've had a problem sleeping in an angled seat before.
  • Overall, it's not a very dense aircraft in the premium section - 9 F and 40 J, with no W. That said, there are 350 Y seats, but the pitch is 34"! For those looking for a cash ticket, TG Y might be well worth considering.

correct - no doors on the suites. and reports that they are narrow. business class offering is the same angled seats they have now, no change.

cx is market leader for the 747 F nose cabin in terms of space and privacy. LH wins for exclusivity on their 8 F upper deck on the 744, but you are fairly close to your neighbour in seat mode.

My apologies. I had a look, and looks like they have changed the site within the last couple of months. I could do it a two months ago using "guest access" with just the name and flight details.

Can anyone recommend either Thai's A330 out of PER to BKK over Singapore's 772 PER-SIN-SGN? I want to get to Ho Chi Minh and the two options are either via BKK with Thai or via SIN with SIA. The A330 looks like a glorified recliner at 131 degrees on the website pics! The Singapore 772 looks like it has an angled bed much closer to flat than the Thai product, but the flight times aren't as good. Can anyone comment on these two craft?

How often have the targeted bonus promos come around? I've received most/all of the bonus promos up until this August targeted mail out which has me slightly worried! Just as I was ready to pull the purchase trigger of course!

Was going to post this last night as well. Looks really good, although it "seems" less spacious than the old F config. Regardless still looks amazing and can't wait to try it out. My SYD - BKK, MUC - BKK and BKK - SYD are all on the new F suites.

Quick q - If travelling as a couple would you chose 1A/K (given how relatively close they are up the front) or go for the 3E/F?

Can only speak on the 4 sectors l did. 3 in the old 747 and 1 in 77W.
The centre ones for couples would be the way to go.

Cheers Oneworld - We're in 1D/G in the 77W from BKK-CDG. Might leave the 3E/F on the SYD-BKK leg and see how that goes and change if necessary on the way back. Trip is still 4 months away :/
