Hi All, in desperate need of some AFF wisdom with my USDM booking.

My inbound flights home departs 16 Jan 2013. Flying SA EZE-JNB, Dept: 17:55, then connects xJNB-xHKG-BKK(stop)-SYD.
My last port of call will be LSC (La Serena, Chile), The most convenient way get to from LSC to EZE is:

1. Same day transfer: LA301 LSC-SCL 10:00-11:00 (clear immigration, collect baggage & check-in for next flight) then connect to AC92 SCL-EZE 13:35-15:35. Leaving me 2hrs:20mins to connect to the SA flight in EZE. I'm expecting AC will interline baggage to the SA as both are part of *A. I realise the prudent thing to do is make sure i'm in EZE the day before my SA flight to JNB, but that would mean loosing almost 1 full day of time in LSC. I will have visited BUE, so no want to stay another night there.

This relies on 2 connections on 2 different airlines to not go pear-shaped. am I crazy to ve considering this? Or should I do what the brain is telling me and get to BUE the day before.

Alternatives are
2. Fly to SCL the day before on 15 Jan, but still connect the AC flight from SCL, this will half the risk.

Thanks, TJ

The candle was not a gift on offer when I flew. I took the duffle bag, but I've since found out that it is waaaaay too fragile (too easy to put a hole in it).

The candle you can only burn once. Hope you save it for a "very special night" with your GF ;) :p

Apologies for the sure-to-be-dumb questions but unfortunately I don't have the time to trawl through this massive thread.

A couple of questions for you US Div Miles experts:
1. Is the partner airline award chart return? I assume it is.
2. Is the 12 day membership requirement prior to buying miles actually applicable? It seems I can purchase miles with the bonus 50% offer and I've only been a member for a day? I didn't click on confirm yet though.

Thanks in advance all.

partner chart is return.

you can still go through all the motions of purchasing your miles, and they will even hold an authorisation for the full amount on your credit card, but the miles will never come (and your card will never actually get charged). You can buy once your account is fully 12 days old. The authorisation will drop off your card at the time set by your bank's policy.

1. Yes - return journeys. You can book one way journeys, but you'll pay the exact same price (i.e. you're effectively throwing away another half-journey).
2. I believe it is applicable. If you try, you may not receive the bonus (i.e. the transaction may go through, but you won't receive the bonus), or it may fail. I don't know, I haven't tried, and don't intend on testing it :p Best to keep everything kosher.

Great - thanks for that. Nullifies a difficult decision to be made.

So i have completed my trip syd-icn-lax(stopover)-hnl(destination)-lax-icn-syd. Only in hnl our united flight got cancelled which I thought was bad news but it turns out to work in our favour. After a few hours arguing they booked us on a united flight to sfo with a layover for 17 hours and then direct flight home on a lie-flat bed in J . They also have us $20USD meal voucher and access to the united club lounge which I couldn't even get with my united 1k.

Anyway while in the lounge I discovered I can take any flight I choose to get home I basically could go anywhere so I wanted nrt but my mum wanted to go straight home so I booked two nz flights hnl-akl and akl-syd. I was worried about going to Auckland since last time I still owe them money for the customs fine but nobody said anything so worked out well. I still hate flying.

In total I paid 30k for the trip from a closed us airways account so maybe a little something back after they closed my entire families accounts. I think if I called them they would have cancelled it for sure coming from a closed (audited) account and only 30k instead of 110k or 120k.

Anyway just letting you guys know I'm well didnt get arrested and safe back home so no more need to worry .

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Routing options sought

I thought that I'd made the most of the 100% offer and bought some miles for the first time. Nothing is showing on my account and I don't have an email to confirm it. Can someone confirm whether the points (if not the bonus) show up immediately or whether the email is received immediately or do I have to wait a few days?

Data point. I bought a top up yesterday...email and points received pretty much exactly 24 hrs later.

It could be that purchases made on the weekend have longer delays...that was certainly the case with bmi who also used points.com.

you were entitled to UA red carpet club access anyway because you were on an international itinerary. the rule against access for domestic flights didn't apply to you.

As you were only in transit in NZ there would have been no way of them knowing you were there. If you try to enter new zealand in future you will be caught and have to pay the fine.

you say you spent a few hours arguing before they put you on a flight. What was the argument about?

Did you have to ask him?

yeah - I actually want to know what caused a several hour argument.

On the one time I had a major delay (6+ hours causing me to miss my connection to Europe) UA spent three hours on the phone with me looking at every single possibility to get me to my destination (the main problem was the 6 hour delay got me into ORD after most of the european flights had departed).

This was a US award ticket, but UA was more than happy to accommodate me on BA or AA just to get me home. Their service recovery in this regard is exemplary. So I cannot comprehend how there could have been any argument.

My original ticket was hnl-lax and then I had a 12 hour layover before my next segment which is was on TG. I tried to enter the UA club on the F ticket to lax which is domestic. Once I got my new ticket I gained access.

The agreement was about they wanted to get me on a later flight 6 hours later to l.a to catch my connecting flight on TG to icn from my original ticket. I was trying to explain to them that once my ticket has missed a segment my whole itinerary is cancelled and they are responsible to get me back to Sydney where their opinion was they were responsible to get me to catch my next flight from lax.

I was happy with the outcome now to get my points or money back.

United was entirely correct in their assessment. Missing one segment where the passenger is not at fault DOES NOT cancel the rest of the ticket. That only happens where the passenger misses a segment through their own fault! So UA was correct they only needed to get you to LAX in time to meet your TG flight.

you are lucky they didn't call the police to get you removed if you were arguing about this. The person who told you the rest of the itinerary was cancelled was lying to you and setting you up for a joke just to see how much trouble you'd get yourself into! Not a friend!

Now you want compensation? For what?

Once again, the person telling you that you can apply for compensation is just setting you up and giving you bad advice.

I would be very surprised if your united 1k account has not been annotated with your behaviour at the airport, and you may find your membership cancelled quite soon! (along with any miles in there or tickets) :(
