Hmm, that is a good point so maybe a couple of thousand miles for those accounts.

AA is on my radar but probably only if I want to go somewhere not served by US/Lifemiles. Havings said that a trip to US or Canada sometime for skiing does attract!

except to note that all of asia opens up on CX - with full flat beds to HKG!! (compared to angled on tg and sq :()

and - forgot to add - only 70K return in business - 90K in F! bargain!

Singapore Airlines isn't the 'be all and end all of the first class' flying pinnacle. They are fantastic but there are some very very very good F products out there as well. For example from around mid-September Thai Airways will be servicing an A380 on the SYD-BKK route (I think TG476/475) and then connect onto HKG with an A380. From start to finish, especially if you have never flown F or even J, you will be blown away ....... and for not much more than the price of an economy revenue ticket :)

Unfortunately we need to stop in Singapore on the way back, hence why I've picked Singapore Airlines. Am I able to set up US Airways Dividend Miles memberships and buy points for my children too?
What are our chances of getting four J tickets on the one flight?
Are kids tickets the same number of points adult tickets?
I assume a stopover in Singapore wouldn't be a problem doing SYD-SIN-HKG-SIN-SYD on Singapore airlines?

What are our chances of getting four J tickets on the one flight? Not good, particularly for 4 sectors.
Are kids tickets the same number of points adult tickets? YES

As above......

but you would need to be quick. Accounts must be 12 days old before you can buy miles.

You could split the party - 1 adult and child in each and probably fly that way. If you waited for TG availability you may well find 4 seats on AU-BKK-HKG. Then split the return if necessary. That being said I found 3 biz class seats on SQ biz for MEl-SIN for travel in June just yesterday.

might be worthwhile buying a small parcel - just in case they have another targetted promo later. Mising out now might mean you don't get another offer.

Exactly my plan too. Both accounts I "control" (no, one isn't fake - just someone else's I look after) got the offer as they both bought miles in 2012. Definitely don't need any more right now, but will still buy 1,000 for each account.

Is that right? Last I heard TG pulled the A380 from SYD and hadn't announced if/when it would be on that route. Hoping I'm wrong / missed something though!

I don't think I've ever heard anything concrete about the A380 & SYD.

It might be a tough ask getting 4 awards seats on SQ. It's hard enough even via their KF program to get 4 seats. And I think the SIN-HKG vv are mostly operated by A380's so again it gets tougher. However with TG I know there are people who have booked 2 + 2 on the same flight, and you could stop in BKK and make your own way to SIN. I know its extra flights but this is AFF and we all support that extra flying ;)

I read an article some months ago saying SYD was good to go, but my check on the TG website's announcement/news pages reveals nothing concrete, just a mention that their 5th and 6th A380 will be delivered in the final quarter 2013 with no routes associated.

Recently I read about TG complaining that essentially the A380 was not well suited to their long haul routes as they would rather have frequency than a single daily flight...so that wouldn't bode well for SYD. I wouldn't be surprised to see the A380s eventually doing more short / medium haul flying in Asia...TYO / HKG / ICN etc.

Thanks for the assistance guys. The kids are only 3 and 5, so more flying and unnecessary stops just aren't worth the pain. I'll forget about the wonders of J and F and just pay for Y tickets.

With flights for this year booked and still several hundred thousand miles in family accounts, i think only another one of those 100% share offers will get me interested for a while....
That or another Grand Slam! The very first "inside story" that came out about the GS last year (which proved to be correct that there would not be one for 2012) did suggest there would be a 2013 Grand Slam, here's hoping.

Isn't SYD-BKK around 9 hours though? I would have thought that was almost the perfect flight time to make it a daily return if they were organised enough (3 hours to disembark, clean, reset/restock and board). They would need to clean and reset the plane very quickly but some carriers do it exceptionally quickly (I think the QR 777 is on the ground in MEL for all of about 75 minutes each night)

Not fast enought for the one plane to do two SYD- BKK flights per day though which is what I suspect bcworld is refering to.

Not really. I was referring to comments made by TG management that they were struggling to find a role for the A380. Of course when they ordered it they expected to use it on their long haul routes but since then they've been well and truly overtaken by the competition or there is far more competition from ME carriers etc. The gist of it was that they now don't have the passenger numbers on some sectors to justify sending the A380...London would be a good example. They'd have to send a single daily A380 and in reality it is probably better to stick with frequency and go for 2 x smaller aircraft (albeit 2 x A340s provides many more premium seats). Sydney could be similar although converting 1 daily 744 to A380 is more likely than a smaller aircraft. However I think TG does have more success on Asian routes and that is what the article was suggesting - A380 could do more short haul work. Can't find the article...but some details here.

It is also capacity though. Thai would prefer to run two flights a day offering say 650 seats (320 odd per flight) in total rather than one flight A380 with 550 seats and one flight with 250 seats (giving a total of 800 seats) when they might not be able to fill that larger total of seats.

4 * 9 hours = 36 hours, ignoring any turnaround time, how do you intend to fit that into a day (24 hours)?

Sorry, I meant 1 daily return - if the demand is there the other daily return could be done by a smaller 777-200 or similar.

I just actioned this... interestingly, the miles posted instantly.

I'm looking at booking a redemption SYD-CDG in F return in Sept/Oct with a stopover in BKK for a couple of days on the return leg. When I look at AwardTravelr for the return flights SYD-CDG, I can find F flights on the day I want to travel and also a couple of days later. When I search just CDG-BKK, no F flights come up.

If there is a CDG-SYD F flight stopping in Bangkok on the date I want to stopover and then another CDG-SYD F flight a couple of days later when I want to continue on to SYD, how will USDM search the flights?

Am I likely to get F for the entire return?
