Yup.

Ok... re-pricing has come back, and is definitely $441.40 each. Hmm.... I'm thinking it's because of LHR.

Thanks for confirming this.

You're probably paying the LHR departure tax which is around $200+ - Have you tried leaving out of CDG instead?

Yeh, that's probably why. Happy with what we're paying anyway so will just leave as is. :)

Thanks! It's for my parents, their first long haul J trip ; I bet they'll be excited when I tell them ;)

Flights are all booked, confirmed and are showing online in their accounts.

Great work! Looking to purchasing my miles next weekend for a trip to Europe in F (as much as possible). Its great to hear all the success stories in the meantime.

the departure tax for premium cabins long haul is up to 6000 miles (which i think bangkok is) is GBP150. So about AUD228 or USD240. Then there is the 50USD booking assistance fee per passenger - so thats already around the USD290 mark. The remainder of the USD440 is for actual airport/govt taxes. Seems about right.

Wow, you really know your stuff with that taxes info! Any guestimates on taxes for a Syd to Munich redemption (passing through anywhere necessary on the way, e.g. BKK if thai)?? Looking at a redemption for next year... we have 100K Sing. Air points - online redemption would require just under 81,000 of these. But then taxes on top are 731.42!!
[edit - $534 in airline fuel and insurance; just under $200 airport/govt. charges]
I'm exploring the option of an alternative of buying up US Dividend Miles (opened an account about 2 weeks ago) and using them instead if total cost is not going to be heaps more??
(oh yes, it is economy I'm investigating, I know you'll all think I'm mad!)
Thanks!

Would rather just spend the little extra to be sure.. 'tis for an important event.

All miles are now showing in the account :) Ringing back to confirm the flights now.

Its too late now since your tickets are all booked, in less than 20 minutes too!!

But I think the $275 question is .... we wanted you to do this:-

Person A buys 50k and 50K free
Person B buys 50K and 50K free

Person A "tries" to GIFT 10K to Person B .... in hope that 10K bonus appears.

If the bonus is applied, then it is a bonus (and save $275). If the extra 10K doesn't appear, just buy another 10K on top of that.

So worse case scenario is you buy 2 lots of 10K per account, and extra few minutes of time.

We just wanted an actual result to see if you could buy/gift more than the max. 50K bonus.

I think from reading it may be possible but using two different OS I.e FF & IE9 . However this would be breaking the rules and we don't want anyone doing that here .

Thanks!

You can do an ITA matrix search on any itinerary to find out what the breakdown in taxes and YQ is, though generally US doesn't charge YQ on redemption bookings.

Hey Shanye, interesting pickup. I had read that people were able to do this as well but was never quite sure of how they managed to do it. Have you tried this?

With regards to breaking the rules, are you talking about it being a violation of the T&C's or something else?

Guys, why try to ruin a good thing by trying to go around the rules. We are getting a GREAT deal as it is. Why spoil it.

Not trying to ruin it for anyone somebol, I was just curious as to how people were achieving this as it has been mentioned before. I'll remove my post so that people don't get the wrong idea when reading through this thread.

Guys I got some tickets on hold now for my parents flying PER AKL in J. I'm about to pay for the first time what happens once I pay where do the tickets go to and how to I send them to my folks ? Can they have any issues at the airport because I brought them with my account ad I'm not flying !

It's all etickets mate so just need to record the pnrs and ticket numbers. Paper tickets are long gone! Doesn't matter that you aren't travelling.

What a pnrs?
Its' PNRs!

A PNR refers to "Passenger Name Record" - it's your booking. A "booking reference" is a direct link to a PNR.

GDS's use PNRs to reference/store information in relation to a passenger's booking - more than one passenger can be on the one booking or PNR's. A PNR can reference more than one ticket (number).
