New offer till the end of Feb, but unfortunately its an offer to save 50% when you buy or gift miles, but exclusively for US Airways credit cardholders so counts most of us out... So that is an offer to those who receive a special email and now only their credit card holders... Are these offers coming with more caveats than they use to????

i was thinking about that. It would be a good way to limit the purchase of miles within a single group of people (pretty much only US Airways frequent flyers - all others would have credit cards affiliated to their respective programs). Cuts out the aussies grabbing all the Thai airways tickets out of australia. Would also cut a fair few SQ seats being redeemed i would have thought (given most of the awards can only be redeemed these days on regional aircraft). I do wonder if this is some sort of restriction placed by other Star partners, or offered by US as a way around the glut of points.

Guess we need to look for friendly USA based members willing to buy points if we need them. Well - will need to wait maybe until end Feb now to see the next deal...

Hi,
Advice on how far out in terms of days, can you book an award flight?..cannot seem to find it in terms & conditions
[could have missed it  ]

you can have EITHER a stopover, OR an open jaw... not both. you can stopover on the same continent as your destination if you want. for example, plenty of people I know fly to shanghai, stopover, then continue to Beijing.
Hmmm. I was going to ask the same question but it appears the answer is not what I wanted to hear. :(

I am starting to plan my next trip and was wondering if the following itinerary is possible.

HKG-(BKK)-SYD-BKK/SIN-TPE

Open jaw with a stopover in BKK.

I don't think that is an open jaw itinerary. My understanding of an open jaw itinerary ia from A to B, then return from C to A. Start point just be your end point.

Happy to stand corrected though.

I'm assuming from JohnK's itinerary he's got SYD as the 'destination' and BKK as the stopover on the "way back". The open jaw is start HKG / finish TPE.

I'm thinking this will be invalid. Firstly, as said you can only have a stopover or open jaw. This itinerary violates that.

Also, can you have surface sectors in a US DM itinerary? I'm concerned about the BKK/SIN break.

the open jaw, depart hgk, finish tpe is fine, no stopovers allowed. the surface sector (if that's what was meant, into bkk and out of sin) is not permitted as it would be considered a second 'open jaw' (whatever that's called!)

Sorry for the confusion.

What I meant by HKG-(BKK)-SYD and then SYD-BKK/SIN-TPE was a stopover in BKK on the outbound leg and by going to TPE instead of HKG makes it an open jaw so I am guessing no stopovers allowed. Was simply trying to kill 2 birds with one stone by using my VS miles to get to HKG but did not really want to return to HKG.

The current QF special to BKK has put a hold on this plan....

I am reading in your case John that you want two open-jaws, ie BKK//SIN and HKG//TPE, which is not allowed. You can only have one stopover or one open jaw. You can't have both OR not allowed to have any of those more than once.

Hi guys

This is my first time redeem US dividen miles, would be very grateful if someone could comment my itinerary is valid or not?

ICN-FRA ( I cannot connect via TG at all? I try to search on ANA but cannot find flight on TG but only LH and OZ)

then return

FRA-BKK-KUL//SIN-TPE ( I want to stop in KUL and fly to TPE from SIN)

If I done all these in J, total miles would be 90k?

Thanks heaps guys!

Your itinerary is an open-jaw. Therefore you cannot have any stopover. I don't think US would accept the surface sector either.
