So with USDM going... going... Apart from Life Miles, which will hopefully still offer some decent priced *A one way redemptions, does anyone know of the next best value *A FF program...

With so many airlines in the alliance you would think there must be another good one out there???

If earn and burn is your game, then either KrisFlyer (if you can earn and burn fast enough to put up with 3 year expiry, and most of your travel is on SQ) or United MP is probably where it is at. The latter is not well catered for Australians because there is no credit card, but if you fly enough and don't mind putting the miles away, UA has a decent availability (in some cases slightly superior to US DM) and unlike KrisFlyer, doesn't charge YQ.

Otherwise, seems like LifeMiles will become the new *A consolidator... or the village bicycle :) depending on how you like to pitch it.

Also UA tends to sell miles also with bonuses, but not quite as good as what USDM was doing.

QF award seats maybe, but CX/BA/RJ/AA are not too bad. Don't worry so much! :)
I tried getting a business class seat SYD-ATH/SKG with AA and there was one convoluted routing with Etihad outbound around the date I wanted but nothing available coming back in July.

Around 5-6 months away from travel and trouble finding availability does not give me a lot of confidence.

ATH is a bit difficult to get to - but piecing it together I found various dates in July/August outbound SYD-HKG on QF (business) connecting to CX HKG-LHR for example. ATH was the killer because the availability was leaving very early in the morning (0730 or something) and coming back was limited to the late night flight (arriving LHR 2245).

So maybe not good for your mom's ticket - but there were a number of days you could piece something together (I searched via the BA site - AA doesn't return CX availability)

It will be LifeMiles and SQ for me. SQ for credit card creditting capability, Lifemiles to buy cheap points & hence flights. Actually paying through the normal methods for a flight I don't do that much these days except on Air NZ/VA to NZ and even there I creatd my NZ points to VA so not considering them.

I think it explains why US had so many 100% promos in a row recently.

Not so sure on this one, while they clearly knew negotiations were going on I don't think anyone "knew" it was going to happen for sure until probably January, most of these promos were before that.

So is to safe assume no more 100% points offers now because of the merger?
No more Singapore or AirNZ redemptions.
My favourite cheap business class cash cow has died?

have to wait and see! USDM has successfully been raising cash through these deals. They may wish to continue to do so. Or to have another 100% offer in case they are going to change redemption levels, or because they want people to top up their accounts and redeem on star alliance before the liability transfers over to AA.

Too hard to know at this stage.

There's always LM!

Considering Lifemiles does points plus pay, the current offer can give you a resonable bank of redemptions.

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if this itinerary was possible.

Hong Kong - Singapore - Male (Destination) - Singapore - Perth

So the open jaw is the starting point.

If it is possible, I'm guessing it will cost 90 000 each for a business redemption?

I would say no because the distance PER-HKG is greater than HKG-MLE. Therefore this wouldn't be a valid open jaw.

I agree its too early to come to that confusion, it has as noted been a succesful strategy so wouldn't be as sure as some that it will stop.

Cheers for the reply Alan (a few pages back).

If a 'US Airways Promo' offer rolls in, grab it by the horns, everyone!

Why pay QF double the miles, when you can get a better deal with US/AA.

SYD-LHR - F.

  • AA is 80k

  • QF is 96k, but that's just an 'upgrade' from Y to J

Has anyone been able to book NH F lately?

I am keen to give them ago but only if NH F bookings are acheivable, looking at two seats.

I didn't try to book them, but I did manage to find two seats around the dates I wanted via ANA on NH F ex-IAD.

I didn't book them as that was on my backup routing.

Just keep in mind though that a lot of people often have trouble booking them, and the availability you see on ANA is often just for ANA members...

Then I should probably add that when I was trying to put together an option for the booking with the agent, she managed to see the two seats and add them successfully to the open booking.

Since we never got to ticketing and rates desk, fair enough that this is by no means precedent. As always, have a backup plan. The neighbouring OZ, on their new product, makes a perfect backup.

Hi,

Has anyone tried to buy miles under the current 50% bonus targeted promo?

I have a friend who has opened a new account in the last week of Jan (so has now opened more then 12 days), and have received two emails from US Airways encouraging him to participate in the 50% bonus, but when he goes to the buy screen - enters the details but gets no bonus offer? (& hence too scared to buy).

Not sure why they send him the email (from one system), but the other system doesn't reflect it. [left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing].

thanks forum members, if you can shed some light onto this?

Cheers

Just tried a dummy buy miles and have a 100% bonus sitting there... haven't received anything about it via email though.
