Do you mean HKG-BKK?

Great that you managed to have a stopover in HKG

mileage cost and taxes please?

On my recent trip to Europe I had two stops. One in Frankfurt, the other in DC. Has anyone managed three or more?

After the recent share miles offer I thought I would give a USDM redemption a go...
I just put the following on hold for May next year.

PER-SIN SQ214 J - overnight in Singapore
SIN-BKK TG402 J - daytrip in Bangkok
BKK-AKL TG491 Y - daytrip and overnight in Auckland
AKL-PPT NZ40 Y - time for some island hopping :)

Then return
PPT-AKL NZ41 Y
AKL-PVG NZ289 J
PVG-SIN SQ833 Y - Day trip in Shanghai!
SIN-PER SQ255 Y - Redeye...then drive home!

All for 30,000 miles each.
Im pretty chuffed with that :)
And if I wanted to I could have had a 2 day stopover in Auckland (and then fly direct to Perth) rather than routing through Shanghai - but I thought what the heck may as well go to China!

A question regarding changing seat classes:
How does it work with regards to the legs that are in Y? If I have used a J redemption, does that mean I can switch to a J seat when one comes available? Does this have a cost associated once the tickets have been ticketed? And are there any tools that allow this to be tracked and notify you when one has come available?

Anyway all in all I am pretty excited - wanted to go to Taihiti, but go to throw Singapore, Bangkok, Auckland and Shanghai into the mix, and got to do a few of the legs in business for less than a normal return trip in Y!
Thanks for everyone sharing all the useful information! And thanks USDM!

Also a newbie question - the Singapore and Auckland stops are overnight layovers.
Does a J redemption on USDM mean you get access to the business lounges in these airports for some cheap overnight couches?

If it's just 'on hold' bear in mind it could get knocked back before ticketing...this routing is beyond outrageous!

Changing classes for individual sectors is fraught with difficulty. You will likely get charged $150pp each time you do it...and many agents will want to cancel your entire itinerary and start again to make that change.

This is an itinerary that, if you get it ticketed, you never, ever call up and inquire about it again!

You will have lounge access in SIN but not AKL.

nice itinerary! but that being said its just crazy and I can't understand why USDM would even allow it. has it been to the rate desk?

as for changing seats to a,higher class... the fee is $150. some agents will insist they have to cancel the whole booking and start again... if you run into that the hang up and call again.

snap bcworld!!!

as for the lounges... in bangkok you can get a hotel for $30 a night near the airport including return transfers.

If this happened 2 me i would have paid on the spot. Why did you ring up for a pray and get it answered only to place it on hold. When I got a F rtw for 45k I couldn't wait to pay.

Care to tell us how you researched the routings: AwardTravlr, ANA, AwardNexus ....?

Goodness - thats an interesting itinerary! The Y legs would kill it for me as I would have no desire to race around and see as many things as possible in under 24 hours after or before another Y flight.

I thought SQ flights put on hold simply vanish back into the inventory pool?

I would also be ticketing this ASAP and not touching it - if the person you call to ticket it has a basic knowledge of geography or thinks 'that seems like a lot of flights for so few points' and it goes off to the rates desk they will probably can it and mark that on your DM account.

SQ has supposedly gone to three hold as well... leving only air china I think that requires instant ticketing? or maybe no one.

that said I wouldn't trust an sq hold for more than 24 hours. although as the seats are in coach they shou,d be fairly easy to get back. premium is the worry.

Anybody here actually successfully added an Air China leg to a redemption?

I was on line to USDM rep a week ago for over an hour and she just could not get it to confirm even though she could see availability - she went off and got her supervisor to assist but still no joy.
