US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Looking like I'll have to cancel the Wifes & I trip to GUM around easter as won't be able to get the time off.

Instead thinking of flying out Thurs night/Friday morning and doing a couple of long layover instead in BKK and maybe TPE. However looks like I'd have to land at 3am in GUM then depart at 6am... thinking that may raise some suspicions.

Why would it?

Being only 3 hours in the country?:D

I'd be more concerned about explaining it to immigration although they might just buy that it's a transit?

When we flew to HNL immigration quizzed my OH about arriving on a flight from ICN as if travelling from Australia to HNL with a Seoul stopover was something completely outlandish!

Yeah my only concern would be Immigration but can't imagine it being *too* much of an issue.

Clearly HNL immigration didn't understand that *A award space direct to the USA is never great. ;)

has anyone tried to go from PER - AKL (SWP-SWP) via asia?

no flights direct, i'm hoping to fly their new 789 in business PVG-AKL (nearly 12 hour flight) found availability

Have not tried.

NZ operate PER/AKL non-stop... though I can't imagine availability would be excellent, especially in J.

I would say you have no chance...but you should check Lifemiles...I've seen it offer PER AKL via asia.

i should clarify.. only looking at J, when I say not available i mean no J...

I would consider it similar to a GUM trip, can always try and HUACA if it doesn't work route would be PER-BKK-PVG-AKL lol not exactly direct

12 hours aboard NZ's new 789 in J sounds like fun tho

Oh well - go for it, then. :) Let us know how you go.

there have been many examples of back tracking with GUM bookings...

basically we all know many agents have little to no geography, i'll give it a crack within the next couple of weeks

Just booked my first USDM award flights for May/June:
SYD-BKK TG F
BKK-CDG TG F (layover 13hr)
CDG-ATH A3 J (stopover 4 nights)
ATH -TLV A3 J (destination 10 nights)
Return:
TLV -IST TK J
IST -FRA TK J
FRA-BKK TG F
BKK-SYD TG F
Total 150k points. Taxes $250.67 + $50 Booking fee.
I was pleasantly surprised with the availability ex SYD, considering all the GUM bookings done lately ;)
I'm looking forward to experience 7 lounges and 5 different aircraft types.
First time flying F with Thai, I selected seats 1K outbound and 1A inbound. Any suggestions for better seating?
I was also able to allocate seats on A3 but TK told me they can only do it one week before boarding (it didn't help when I said I'm a gold member). Is there another way to pre-select seats on TK?
Also, any other tips will be much appreciated :)

Sounds like a good trip. TK seats can be selected 100 days before travel generally.

TG a380? I would be moving back in the cabin to row 2 A or K. (specifically avoiding rows 1 and 3)

Booked the following for 2:

16-Dec

MEL-BKK J (TG)
BKK-CDG F (A380 TG)
CDG-BRU-JFK J (SN)

5th Jan

LAX-ICN F (OZ)
ICN-BKK-MEL J (TG)

2-3 hour connections each time, bar BKK layover on way home - 7 hours from 1AM to 8AM, so will transit hotel as all the lounges are closed :( Any recommendations?

140,000k + $280USD in taxes/fees

Loving it! Rimowa kits here we come!

Locked in seats too, on the A380 I was super keen.
